Inter-corporation networks has been a hot topic in economics, management, sociology and human geography, but there are less attentions paid to environmental issues during the studying process in these disciplines. In the field of industrial ecology (IE), regional background is always excluded from the study of industrial recycling networks (IRNs) or industrial symbiosis networks (ISNs), that is to say, there is a lack of questioning about the applicability of IRNs or ISNs to different regions. This thesis selects Baiyin City (a mineral-resources-based city from China's Northwest) as a representative of Natural-Resources-Based Industrial Regions (NARBIR) to study the IRN's applicability to NARBIR from geographical views. This thesis is aimed to study whether IRNs is applicable to NARBIR like Baiyin, and how to implement IE's principles in the studied region. The methods used in this study are beyond the limits of over emphasizing material/energy flows in IE and less emphasizing enterprise's behavior in Geography. This thesis starts with studying corporations' behaviors and knowledge by enterprise interview and questionnaire, creatively applies Social Network Analysis (SNA) to environmental issues, and uses future state visioning (FSV) to study the applicability of IRNs to NARBIR and propose the fundamental approaches to implementing IE's principles in Baiyin regarding the enterprises' knowledge. Two hypotheses are proposed in the beginning, the following empirical study carried out in Baiyin is used to test these hypotheses. On the ground of the test results, the information originating from enterprise interview and questionnaire is utilized to discuss the approaches to implementing IE's principles in NARBIR. There are eight chapters in all in this thesis. In chapter one, the background, purpose, meaning and the framework of this study is discussed. In chapter two, the relations between traditional inter-corporation networks and en-...
