To improve the ability to response of market, the networked manufacturing mode must be adopted to research on the great system engineering about machine tool. And the road should be gone along, which is to combine the multi-enterprises to exert advantage of them, and to share the resource and experience about products development when they are in co-researching. Collaborative design, manufacturing and management are the inevitable trend of the machine tool's industry in the future. So considering the present situation, and according to the JiangSu high technology research project (BG2002003), which was the research and application of the key technologies of collaborative digital design and manufacturing for machine tool's industry, some research works on the relevant key technologies and theories were done to realize the collaborative digital design for machine tool. Some achievements were obtained as follows:Based on the analysis of the function requirement of collaborative digital design for machine tool, the web topological structure, architecture and technical system were researched and built. At the same time, the relevant key technologies, including the distributed dealing, digital design based on KBE, networked database, process management, and the information integration based on STEP and XML criterions were studied. The workflow and the method to realize the collaborative digital design system of machine tool were proposed.According to the theories of collaboration and the life-cycle design, after considering fully the effect on design process made by the market requirement, design, manufacturing, sale, maintain and recycle, and so on, the expression mode of machine tool products was analyzed from different viewpoints and layers about time area, space area, and model area. The multi-view model of product life cycle was created, which was integrated with organized view, resource view, product view, process view and function view. The interdependent and interactional relations of all views were studied in detail.Based on the criterions of STEP and XML, the mechanism of the information exchanging and sharing for machine tool was proposed. So the application of criterion about STEP and XML was researched. The EXPRESS language was used to build the product information view of machine tool, the map was created from STEP EXPRESS to XML Schema, the mapping process and the realization methods were studied. The ways of data access and file style conversion for ASP+XML were researched. The information sharing of machine tool was realized by using STEP resolution, STEP-XML conversion, XML resolution and XSL resolution synthetically.The digital design technology based on KBE was studied.
