Pavement Performance reflects the capacities and properties with which pavement serves the passenger and freight transport vehicles. Long-Term Pavement Performance(LTPP) study, as a fundamental research program in roadway engineering area, aims to carry out extensive investigations, statistic, theoretic analysis, tests and experiments; lucubrate on the basic factors that influence pavement performance, such as load, environment, structure, material, construction, maintenance and rehabilitation; discover the regulation how pavement system performs during a long service time; establish systemically integrated engineering theories; provide potent directions and helps for the practice of design, construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, operation and administration of pavements; offer technical supports for increasing pavement lifetime. LTPP, Conducted in many countries, is sure to impulse the development of roadway construction strategy and technology around the world. Be in the ascendant of cosmical highway construction, China is imperative to acclimate the international trend of roadway engineering technology and to carry out the study on LTPP. Some early research work on LTPP is finished in this dissertation and specified in seven chapters. Chapter 1 presents problems, narrate the background of LTPP study and establish the frame of the dissertation. Ordinary pavement distresses on high-grade highways in china, the necessity and long-term significance of LTPP, fundamental conditions and main obstacles of China- LTPP are analyzed in chapter 2. The basic strategy, problems as the key of fundamental theory and methodology of Cbina-LTPP are presented based on current situation of china. Chapter 3 expatiates the intension of pavement performance with function theory, presents study on capacities and properties of pavement, which are structural bearing capacity, running quality, security and distress status . Test methods, index and standards for pavement performance evolution are analyzed according to functional demand for high-grade highways. The dynamic response of pavement structure is the subject of chapter 4 for pavement structural capacity analysis and design. Finite element models are established for this problem based on the theory of dynamic structure analysis; Strategy for pavement transient response solution is studied; The general regulations of pavement response under FWD load and wheel load are analyzed with numerical calculation. Chapter 5 carries out computer-aided-experiment for dynamic responses of different pavement structures, directed by uniform design; conducts simulations for pavement dynamic response and inverse-analysis of structural parameters with Artificial Neural Network(ANN) models; offers assistance for pavement capacity evaluation and further studies. Entity road sections and test sections project are put in practice for the program of LTPP of Expressway in HeNan Province HNLTPPY, with detailed monitoring plan. LTPP information management system(IMS) are developed for this program. The data analysis and empirical simulation of pavement performance are finished upon ANN models in chapter 6. Chapter 7 presents essentials and conclusions of the whole paper.
