One of the most important developing trends of manufacturing industry is distributed or networked manufacturing. Based on the theory/viewpoint that the essential feature of a manufacturing process is a kind of manufacturing resource conversion process, this dissertation put forward creatively and systematically a new kind of networked manufacturing schema, named process-oriented networked manufacturing system (PO-NMS). Taking the conversion process as the baseline, the dissertation focuses on the change of the traditional manufacturing schema, reengineering of the organization, and reconfiguration of the resource and technology in the NMS. This research, on the basis of the dipping up advanced manufacturing theory and networked manufacturing supporting technology, plans to optimise the networked manufacturing to become more efficient, flexible and agile.Exampled on the networked manufacturing process of the certain type of flight airfoil, this dissertation studies the key technologies such as system modelling, organizational structure optimisation, process management and so on. The following subjects have been presented and developed in depth.(1) The concept of the process-oriented networked manufacturing schema is proposed after the analysis of the essential feature of a manufacturing system. The definition, composition, and the formalisation expression of process are depicted, the process characteristics of networked manufacturing system is studied, and a basic process hierarchical structure, which is considered to be important to show the structure of networked manufacturing system, is given.(2) Use the traditional enterprise modelling methods and the characteristic of networked manufacturing system for reference, a reference model framework of networked manufacturing system is proposed by means of process concept. Taking advantages of visual Object-Oriented modelling technology named UML, the system is modelled and the basic object class structure model is studied. Process-Oriented Networked Manufacturing System Model (PO-NMSM) is a tri-dimensional integrated framework, which consists of five sub-models, i.e.. control model, function model, resource model, organization model and data model. Control model is the essential and distinguishable component of PO-NMSM, which records the inter-model relationships. The resource model and organization model reflect the organizational dispersibility as well as the scheduling and dispatching of dynamic resources. Visual object-oriented modelling technology is used to encapsulate all thefive views as a series of uniform object model. Thus, through depicting the relationships among views by the association and invocation among objects, the multi-view model integration problem is well solved.(3) Design of organizational structure is the key factor that makes PO-NMS different from other manufacturing systems. The organization schema of PO-NMS is revolving about the process-oriented Virtual Manufacturing Alliance (PO-VMA). The Virtual Manufacturing Teams (VMTs) can be constructed by the reconfiguration of the basic organization units in PO-VMA. The formal definition of the VMTs is presented. The paper also designs the organization schema by means of VMTs. Based on the proposed organization schema, the virtual cooperation model and negotiation strategy during the lifecycle of PO-VMA are fully discussed, and a mathematical model as well as its solution algorithm and procedure are put forward.(4) Process management and coordination is an assurance for PO-NMS implementation and operation. Process management consists of the formulation of the process management solution, as well as the monitoring and scheduling of the process operation based on the proposed solution.
