Based philosophically on the science of complexity and the Theory of Harmony, this thesis has summarized the experience and lessons of study, research and practice in the Huang Mountain Scenic Spot and surrounding areas by the teachers and students of Tsinghua University. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the practical methods and theories of master planning and architectural design within the complicate system. Hopefully, this thesis will provide some useful experience and references for the future development of tourist cities and historical scenic spots, especially the development of the Huang Mountain Scenic Spot and surrounding areas.Through the analysis of the background of social philosophy in modern days, the first section of this thesis elaborates the rethinking process of the problems and concerns in the architectural development, which are affected by the science of complexity. By combining extensive research of the natural and cultural backgrounds, the cultural characteristics of this region and the vicissitudes of traditional residential neighborhoods within Huang Mountain Scenic Spot and the surrounding areas, this section provides the new cognition and understanding within the complicate system of adaptability toward the phenomenon and problems occurred during the development of Huang Mountain Scenic Spot.By studying and summarizing the methodology of architectural design during different period from both domestic and international resources, the middle section proposed the principles of design methodology for the system of complicity, which is directed by the thought of restoration and reconsolidation. This section also elaborates the specific design methods - restoration and reconsolidation, moreover, it analyses systematically the contend, as well as the characteristics, affected factors and value orientation of aforementioned methods. The last section illustrates our design practice in Huang Mountain Scenic Spot and the surrounding areas over the last several years. Our experience reflects the utilization of the thought of restoration and reconsolidation and its specific design methods. This section includes the living examples of the restoration and reconsolidation on nature, architecture, site, cities and towns, as well as scenic areas. It has also summarized the lessons we've learned through our practice, and pointed out that social, economical and academic backgrounds are essential to the comprehensive study of the development in Huang Mountain Scenic Spot and the surrounding areas. Those aspects will serve as the foundation and objective for the master planning and architectural design practice in this region. The points of view in this thesis are coming from the practice, the related study and research. They are then applied and tested during the latter practice. It is the beginning of the study on "conforming complexity" in architectural industry.
