Spatial structures of all kinds show an inspiration which usually endued with by the nature. The creativity of the nature exceeds the human ingenuity ever and again. Spatial structure will be understood and developed better with the principles of bionic engineering. Bionics is a verge branch of science, which solves the problems in project or society, with biological knowledge and methods. It is surprising that they make their dens and nests in needs and win the most large, firm, marvelous shapes but consume least materials. The paper takes a great interest and deep investigation in the intrinsic relations between the natural configuration and the existing structures. In the view of bionics, the study on bionic engineering in spatial structures is under going. Both the rationality and limit of the building and living structure are cognized. The oneness between, the characteristic scale and restrict on building and living are put forward. The innovational research on bionic engineering in spatial structure in the paper are as following.1) In the light of archaeological data, the subliminal application of bionic idea, the embryo and historical development of modern structures, and the influence on the building structures and style caused by religion, custom, history and culture be investigated.2) From the viewpoints of morphology, mechanism, material, function and construction, general laws be instanced.3) In the principle, method of and comments on the bionic research, the concepts of fractal, topology, chaos and combinatorics be introduced, and the concepts and idea be brought forward.4) The future research and application be foretold, etc.
