Steel structures have been widely used in civil engineering as a result of the advantages. One of dominating structural systems is steel frame. In order to satisfy anti-seismic design commend, ductility has been needed in multi-story and high-rise buildings. Beam column connections experienced a great deal of brittle fracture phenomenon in Northridge Earthquake and Hyogoken-Nanbu Earthquake which indicated that connection performance is very important for steel frames. To research connection behavior under seismic action in multi-story steel frames and to improve ductility as well as anti-seismic ability in case brittle fracture has great theoretical value and project significant in building construction.One of the methods to improve ductility of structure is controlling the plastic hinge position on beam effectively. According to anti-seismic design principle of"strong column and weak beam"in steel frame, the connection form that is impaired by hole on web is adopted in this thesis. At the same time, five specimens fracture experiment under cyclic loading are made. The sectional stress distribution in the connection region, hysteretic behavior, failure mode and ultimate bearing capacity of connection are discussed. Moreover, the detailed calculation and contrastive analysis are carried out by using the software ANSYS. Theoretical calculation and testing results show that adopting the connection construction with a hole on the web can alleviate the stress state greatly and transform the failure mode of the connection from brittle fracture to local buckling damage on beam, reduces the possibility of brittle fracture by welding and improve the ductility performance of connection to a great extent.
