The steel residence has the advantages of good seismic performance, fast construction and ability of being recycled, etc., so making great efforts to develop the steel residence meets the requirements of residential industrialization and sustainable development. The steel residence has good seismic performance, but accidents that joints damage caused the structure collapse still occurred under earthquake force. The main reason is that people still haven't understood clearly the failure mechanism of beam-column joints, corresponding criteria of seismic design and technical measures can not completely prevent damage. Semi-rigid beam- column joints has the advantages of simple installation, good mechanical performance, on-site installation without welding, etc., which is widely used in steel residence. Analysis and research on the mechanical performance and failure mechanism of semi-rigid beam- column joints under single direction load and cyclic load has important theoretical and engineering significance. In this paper, based on the consideration of material, geometry and state three combined nonlinearity, finite element mode of end-plate connection and T-steel connection, which are commonly used in steel residence, were established by ANSYS program. And their Mc-θcurve under single direction load and hysteresis curve under cyclic load were studied; the initial rotational stiffness, ultimate strength, hysteretic behavior as well as failure mode were discussed. Systematic analysis were done on the influence of parameters to the hysteretic behavior, which include bolt diameter, bolt grade, bolt pre-tension, the dimension of end-plate, the dimension of T-steel, friction factor, materials and so on. Finally, based on the results of nonlinear finite element analysis, appropriate structural parameters of two semi-rigid beam-column joints were given, and seismic design countermeasures and suggestion on end-plate connection and T-steel connection were brought up.
