The Research on manufacturing environment (ME) information model is a new field of CIMS. The information of ME contains production organisation and control structure, manufacturing resources, and manufacturing capabilities of the enterprise. The information in ME is integrated resource that sub-system of CIMS need to share in every phase of engineering and manufacturing life-cycle phases of the product. Process Plan (PP) is the output of CAPP system. It's a bridge of exchange information between CAPP system and other system of CIMS. So the research on ME model and PP model, and developing the tools not only support 0the evolpment of the architecture that bases on data model, but also help to standardization of information exchange and consistence of information expression in CIMS.Because there is large amount of information in ME which is complex data type. Traditional information modelling methodology such as structured analysis method and entity-relation modelling method can't really describe the information of ME and process plan.The evolpment of Object-Oriented (O-O) technology and STEP technology provides base of information modelling theory and method. This dissertation synthesized STEP and O-O technology to establish ME model and PP model. ME modelling tool and PP editor tool have been developed.In Chapter two, the principles of O-O technology is introduced. From three aspects (modelling viewpoints, modelling method and modelling tool) the characteristics and weakness of traditional modelling methonology and O-O modelling methodnology have been analysed. A hybrid object-oriented modelling methonology which synthesized STEP and O-O technology has been developed.In Chapter three, using the modelling methodology above, the information of ME is abstracted as three sub-models. Such as structure schema, resources schema, capabilities schema. The information of ME has been described from three aspects (Production organization and control structure, manufacturing resources manufacturing capabilities). Constentence and Completeness of the information have been assured. In structure schema, the hierarchical structure which has the number of layers has been proposed. In resources schema, resource-type object and resource object have been abstracted. Not only the common and static attributes of resource-type, but also the dynamics attributes of the specific resource have been described.This sub-model really and objectively reflects the information of resource and meet the requirement of the application system. In capabilities schema, the definition and classification of process capabilities correspond to design and process planning of product in aspect of concept and classification and support concurrent design . Production capabilities that reflect production status support research on integrated method between CAPP and PPC system.According to STEP modelling method, alternate process plan model has been established in Chapter four. Because thinking of dynamics ME and manufacturing optimum goal, the model has knowledgeable and modulize characteristic.In the fifth chapter, substance and key technology of concurrent design have been analysed. Using O-O modelling method, product definition model of box-type parts has been established. A manufacturable evaluation method of concurrent design has been proposed which based on unified data model, such as product data model, ME model process plan model.Chapter six focuses on integration method between CAPP and PPC system that based on ME model and PP model above.ME modelling tool and PP editor tool have been introduced in chapter seven.Finally, in chapter eight, the main results and conclusions obtained are given, and the future research direction has been proposed.
