In this thesis, the mathematical modeling and simulation of the marine main diesel propulsion plant and its control system are systemically studied, along with the process of developing 5 large modern marine diesel propulsion plant simulators. The main achievements and results are included as follows.1. Aiming at the deficiencies for current marine diesel engine models in real-time simulation and calculation precision, a quasi steady state simulation model for large marine propulsion plant is proposed. The complex model consists of the large low speed two-stroke diesel engine, shaft, fixed pitch propeller and ship hull dynamics. The visual simulation software's program for the propulsion plant is accomplished by using VC++.2. As a quasi steady state model for marine diesel engine can't provide some parameters (P-V diagram, P-φ diagram, max.combustion pressure, etc), based on the modularized modeling method, a modeling method and a zero-dimension transient simulation model for large marine propulsion plant are proposed. Based on Windows accurate timing technique, an accurate 1 ms timer for simulation calculation is accomplished in the simulation codes by using VC++. The simulation software is accomplished. The simulation experiments demonstrate the steady and dynamical results matching properly the voyage trial ones, simulation error is less than 5%. The model can be used for engine performance analyzing and prediction as well as the design and optimization of governor system.3. During the simulation calculation of the turbocharger, flow rate and efficiency of the air compressor are gained from the compressor characteristics. The compressor characteristics provided by the compressor manufacturers are given only for the steady state range of the compressor between the surge line and chocking region. This simulation model without unstable region characteristics can't predict the compressor surging.
