At present, China is in the process of rapid urbanization period. With transformation of old districts and expansion of new districts, urban spaces are changing day by day. With more frequent exchanges between countries and cities, many urban problems were raised. Among them, "difficulties in wayfinding" have been encountered by people who travel or work or on business in big cities, and even the local residents in many cities have encountered the same problem. " Wayfinding difficulties " in urban public spaces are already become urgent problems for the city managers. This paper is done for improving "wayfinding difficulties" of urban public space in the city.For this target, start with the "wayfinding act" of people for research. Then identified three factors in wayfinding behavior and affect the performance of wayfinding and choose city signage facilities as the main thesis research content among them.Secondly, I discussed about the characteristics, types and the laws of information transmission. And Choose urban static signage system which is the basic and typical of the wayfinding facilities as a key subjects. Then I established a theoretical system of urban public signage system.Under the guidance of theoretical system in urban public space static signage system, pointed out signage facilities problems in Chinese large and medium-sized cities through the typical city research and the analysis of technical standards. Finally, set up methods and strategy for the problems put forward.Papers focused on the Theory (theoretical articles: chapter 2, 3,4) and the practical application (application articles: Chapter 5, 6, 7) research. Then divided theory and application into interrelated three parts: basic theoretical research (Chapter 2, 3), theoretical study and analysis of the status (Chapter 4,5), the application (Chapter 6, 7). The contents are as follows:The first part of my paper (the second, third chapters) is basic theory to analyze human wayfinding behaviors and signage facilities, and then summarized the urban signage information system theoretical basis.In the research of wayfinding behavior, with the starting of typical example, revealed: the essence of wayfinding behavior is searching the information interaction between pedestrians and the space environment (perception, match, processing and feedback); the core and base content of wayfinding is the "spatial location. "At the same time, establish the concept of the wayfinding theoretical base through spatial location, cognitive map, addressing map, tips information, information freely, and a series of integrated information.Finally, describe and analysis the symbol, characteristics and the dissemination of signage to understand the role of signage information laws and mechanism. Through the research above, establish a theoretical framework of wayfinding behavior. In signage facilities research, defined the context and development of signage facilities, cleared the function and spirit characteristics, and determined the signage system orientation and the types of facilities, discussed the issue of standardization-oriented facilities.Through the comparative analysis between typical signage facilities and urban traffic plan, defined the depth and breadth in geographic space reflect by signage information on people's wayfinding efficiency. And reveal out the importance of licensing codes, road names and direction, traffic control and other information for people. Through research, get the general understanding of signage facilities, character, type, and the general direction for the use of the facility to improve the urban space signage facilities.The second part of paper (chapter 4,5) is focused on theoretical study and analysis of the status quo. This part built the initial construction of the urban static signage systems theory, then analysis the problems in Chinese urban public space signage system.In urban public space static signage system, cleartify the definition and function of urban public space static visual information system(signage system). Using the principles of symbols, dissemination of information theory to analysis the characteristics and a law of urban public space static visual information systems on its target mark, tagging, information carriers, set up space, and users, And other aspects of the general law.On the basis of the analysis, summarized basic theory and set principle of static signage system design. This part discussed specific planning and design methods for a variety of urban public space static signage system, and improve measures from the regulations, planning, construction, management and other aspects.In the research of urban public space static signage system planning and design methods, discussed a variety of three aspects: information systems (message) the reasonablity of establishment (semiotics, communications areas), the effectiveness of the message communicating (communication , acts of cognitive psychology areas), the scientificate of information carrier settings (urban planning, urban design, product design areas). Clarified how to rationally and effectively prepare the specific principles and methods of static signage information, design static signage carriers and set up static signage facilities.In the research for improving Chinese urban public space static signage system responses and measures, pointed out that improvement and construction of urban public space static signage system belong to the whole community works of the socity with the characteristics of community, systematic, comprehensive, long-term nature. The building and perfecting of this system need a comprehensive and orderly manner from all aspects. Firstly, we must strengthen basic research work and grasp its development and changes laws in theory and technical. Uniform and standardized the set standards of all regions to set up scientific and reasonable request; the third point is strengthen regulations and improving the work of implementation; the fourth point is to strengthen professional training to provide guidance systems for design, production, construction manpower intellectual security. At the same time we should pay attention to the knowledge education of signage, and enhance people's signage-reading ability to improve efficiency in the use of signage systems. The last point is broaden the financing channels to provide the necessary financial support for completing urban public space static signage systemAt present, more and more attention are putting on urban public space static signage system at all levels of government.
