Study On Regional Land Use Change And Its Analytical Methodology

Since the 1950s, the human being has been confronted with global environmental changes and the resulted some severe problems. It greatly prompted those world organizations as ICSU and ISSC to initiate the multidisciplinary and cooperative programs such IGBP (International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme) and HDP (The Human Dimensions of Global Change Programme). In this way, LUCC (Land Use and Land Cover Change) was designed as one of the key or 'hot' research plans.LUCC can be considered as the most important and obvious carrier of the relics left in the world by global changes, and also is the starting point for the study of natural and human relations to global changes. This is major reason why the study on LUCC has received more and more attention in the world. China has very special status of population-resource-environment, and is quite peculiar in natural, socio-economic and location conditions. Therefore, China's study on LUCC will, no doubt, greatly promote the LUCC studies in the world.Land use and land cover are different in concept and meaning although they have very close relations. This dissertation takes land use as the study target and carries out the study on the methodology of regional land use change using the integrated research idea from geography and the multi-level analysis approach, and a case study is performed as well. The main contents of the dissertation are as follows:(1) Based on the system theory, a new idea and method used in the study of land use changes are explored and, at the same time, using the analytical approach the integrated study of geometry, kinematics and dynamics of the land use system are conducted; (2) On the basis of fully referencing the existed research results of land use change the methodology and a related model used for the analysis on the geometrical and kinematical features of the natural subsystem, economic subsystem, social subsystem and environmental subsystem of land use system are put forward; (3) After examining the existed methods used in analysis of the dynamics mechanism of land use change, a classification scheme on the factors driving land use changes are established, a hierarchy analysis on the driving factors is conducted, and the meanings and importance of building the model to analyze the relations between the driving factors and the land use change process are discussed; and (4) Using the analytical approach of land use change, the case study of land use changes in Jiangsu Province is conducted, and the multi-level push-pull conceptual driving model elucidating the regional land use changes is also worked out.
