The invasion of alien species has become a serious global environment problem, which was labeled as the most important factor leading to the loss of territorial and global biodiversity, besides habitat loss. Hyphantria cunea (Drury) has been ranked as one of the most important alien invasive pests since it was discovered in Dandong, Liaoning Pronvince for the first time in 1979. It has complex damage mechanism and process, and it leads to serious hazard consequences and great loss. However, at present, the researches on loss evaluation of Hyphantria cunea (Drury) are not enough, especially its quantitive analysis, its damage is not the common concern from the whole society. Therefore, it is in great need to analyze and evaluate the damage and loss systematically and scientifically caused by Hyphantria cunea (Drury).Through applying theories of biology, sociology, economics and bionomics, adopting qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, positive research and normative research, and being on the basis of literature review and field survey, the research production and conclusion are as follows. First of all, the disseration point out the essence of loss evaluation is identifing sorts of damage and loss caused by this invasive species. Secondly, it puts forward loss evaluation methods, sets up the index system of its loss evaluation for the first time, and establishes evaluation models and measuring methods. Thirdly, taking Tianjin, Liaoning, Hebei as the cases, by means of Contigent Value Method, the dissertation estimates landscape beauty loss, operative & living loss, and mental infection loss respectively, based on the sysytematic analysis of those losses. Fourthly, on the basis of cases studies on non-economic loss evaluation, it further estimates that the national total loss for it in the year of 2004 is RMB 230.00 million to 305.20 million, and the average is RJVIB 19 657.12 to 26 086.81 per hm2. At the same time, it points out that the non-economic loss caused by Hyphantria cunea is 1.1 to 1.8 times than the economic one at least. At last, by the benefit-cost analysis based on Analytic Hierachy Process, it compares three different integrative control methods for Hyphantria cunea, and concludes that the second integrativc method is the best acceptant one by experts and operators, because of its highest benefit-cost ratio.
