In order to investigate the relationship of the nutrition and the circannual laws of IGF-1 and antler growth in sika deer, the research used the feeding trails, the methods of RIA and ELISA to analyze the nutrition expenditures and the IGF-1 and GH levels in different physiological periods. The research also investigated the nutrition and the characteristics of antler growth and yield, and measured the concentration of the IGF-1 and GH and seveal serum parameters, and analyzed the model of nutritional regulation, the circannual laws of IGF-1, GH and the characteristics of antler growth and so on. The results were as follows:1 The sika deer penned had the ability of nutritional regulation voluntarily, and increased the body weight in summer, and were under the negative nutritional balance in winter. The dry matter intake(DMI), Metabolizable energy(ME) and digestible crude protein(DCPI) of sika deer in summer were 78~80 g/kg~0.75/d,0.8MJ/kg~0.75/d and 8-10 g/kg~0.75/d respectively, and during the rut 41—60 g/kg~0.75/d, 0.36~0.56MJ/kg~0.75/d and 1.14-3.0 g/kg~0.75/d respectively, and in winter 70-75 g/kg~0.75/d, 0.61~0.69MJ/kg~0.75/d and 3.0-3.6 g/kg~0.75/d respectively. The linear regression equation between the MEI(MJ /kg~0.75/d)and liveweight gain G(g/kg~0.75/d) was: G=28.482MEI-17.78(R2=0.5771, P=0.0026,n=13). The ME requirements of sika deer for maintenance were 0.624 MJ /kg~0.75d, and the ME needed 35.11kJ/ kg~0.75/d when the BW~0.75 increased 1 gram.2 The DCPI and DEI of sika deer and Chinese wapiti correlated with the serum concentration of IGF-1 significantly (P<0.05), and had no correlation with the serum concentration of GH (P>0.05). The regression equations were: DCPI(g/d)= 6.8657IGF-1(ng/mL) + 94.167 (R2 = 0.8253) and DEl(MJ/d) = 0.0145x2 - 0.1875x + 27.353 (R2 = 0.7955) for sika deer, DCPI(g/d)= 12.406 IGF-1 (ng/mL) + 419.44(R2 = 0.8615) and DEI(MJ/d) =0.0219x2 - 0.3323x + 56.17(R2 = 0.8361) for Chinese wapiti(x was the serum concentration of IGF-1). The serum concentrations of IGF-1 in sika deer and Chinese wapiti were high during antler growth, and low during the rut and winter. The serum concentrations of GH were stable comparatively.3 The antler yields(x) of sika deer correlated with the serum concentration of IGF-1 significantly (P<0.01), and had no correlation with the serum concentration of GH (P>0.05), and the regression equation was: IGF-1(ng/mL)= 157.68Ln(x) - 116.81 (R2 = 0.9577, n=6): The antler yields(x) of Chinese wapiti correlated with the serum concentration of IGF-1 significantly (P<0.05), and had no correlation with the serum concentration of GH(P>0.05), and the regression equation was: IGF-1 (ng/mL)=5.93x2-51.8x+l 13.13 (R2=0.8883, n=6).4 The mean liveweight gains of sika deer during antler growth were 12.7kg, and 151.2g daily. The relationship between the mean body weight(BW) and the time of antler growth(T) was significant: BW=-0.0009T2+0.2338T+110.99(R2=0.9899, P=0.0001, n=10). The correlation between the body weight BW(kg) and the length of antlers L(cm) was very highly significant and positive: BW= 0.2366L+111.67 (R2 = 0.9773, P=0.0001,n=8) .5 The body weight(BW) of sika deer during antler growth correlated with the time(T) of antler...
