| Epilepsy(EP) is a clinical syndrome,which is characterized by cerebral dysfunction caused by abnormal discharge of cerebral neurons whose seisures are repeated,one of frequently encountered disease in nervous system,difficult to cure, and harmful greatly.1. Studies of DocumentsReturning to ancient times, names of the disease, pathogenic factors, pathogenesis, symptom complexes, prescriptions, therapies of acupuncture, moxibustion and catgut embedding about epilepsy were approached from the silk book ((the Fifty-Two Prescriptions)) found in the third Han Grave in Mawangdui Changsha, the first classic medical book ({the Yellow Emperor's Internal Classic)) in our country, to the medical experts' books of Tang, Hong, Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasty and modern times. Besides, the research state of epilepsy in modern medicine has been summerized.2. Studies of ClinicThe clinical curative effects of embedding catguts in points(ECIP) treating childhood primary epilepsy(CPE) were observed and some concerned mechanisms were approached compared with Sodium Valproate(VPA) which is publicly admitted a broad-spectrum antiepileptic Western medicine at present.The studies of clinical curative effects indicated that CPE patients' symtoms and pathological waves of EEG have been distinctly improved by the treatment of ECIP, the symptomatic curative effects, changes of EEG and general clinical effects ofthe ECIP group were similar with that of the Western medicine group,the difference between the two groups was not of notable significance(p>0.05), but the short-term cure rate of the ECIP group was distinctly higher than that of the Western medicine group(p<0.01),it indicates that ECIP can ragulate function of the cerebral neurons, effectively inhibit the abnormal discharge of cerebral neurons, and then stop the seisures of epilepsy, it's curative effects were stable and lasting, the bouncing phenomenon as VPA was not found after stopping treating.ECIP could shorten the incubation period of CPE patients' event related potentials(ERP)P300, raise the wave amplitude of that,and make cerebrum to shorten the processing time of gnosia to the external world information, strengthen the ability for cerebrum to distinguish information. It indicates that ECIP can ragulate the state of excitement and inhibition of cerebral cells,improve the cerebral blood circulation at the same time, and quicken the prosthetic process of injured nerve cells in many regions of cerebral cortex and such cerebral limbic system as hippocampal gyrus.ECIP could notably improve CPE patients' VIQ , PIQ and FIQ. It indicates that ECIP can regulate the functions of cerebral cells, prevent epilepsy from seisures, and then avoid the secondary injury of cerebral neurons due to seisures, strongly protect the functions of cerebrum, improve the vitality of cerebral cells at the same time, and therefore receive the effects of stopping epileptic seisures, invigorating the functions of the cerebrum and benefiting the intelligence.ECIP could improve CPE patients' MQ. As the hippocampal gyrus, which is located in the inside of cerebral temporal lobe, has very close relation with memory, it indicates that the mechanism for ECIP to treat epilepsy is related to promoting the repair of injured neurons in cerebral hippocampal gyrus.ECIP could influence CPE patients' QOL, the whole QOLlevel difference between before and after the treatment had a notable significance. Among all the individual indexes such as worrying about seisures feelings, gnosia function, pharmaceutical influence and social capability have been notably improved.
