| Mulgedium tatarica Linn is the species of Mulgedium genus of the family Compositae, mainly distributed in northeast, northwest and southwest of China. Its whole herb has been used as a folk remedy for the treatment of appendicitis, erysipelas, extravasated blood, abdominal distension and red leucorrhea. Previous chemical investigations of this species indicated that the germacrane-, guaiane-and eudesmane-type sesquiterpene lactones were the main components.Adenocaulon himalaicum Edgew is the genus Adenocaulon of the family Compositae tribe Inuleae, a perennial herb, widely distributed in Southwest and Northwest of China. The whole plant has been used for treatment abscess, hemorrhage, and inflammation. Previous chemical investigations of this species indicated that caffeic acid derivatives were the main components. In addition, a new acetylene and a new monoterpene glycoside have been isolated by Korea chemist.Equisetum ramosissimum is species of Equisetum genus of Equisetaceae, widely distributed all over of China. As a Chinese folk medicine, it was used as an antitussive and diuretic agent. On the basis of the reference, the flavone was the main constituents in the plant of Equisetaceae. In this paper, we studied the chemical constitents of three plants (Mulgedium tartarica, Adenocaulon himalaicum and Equisetum ramosissimum). The compounds were isolated by means of silica gel column chromatography (CC), preparative thin layer chromatography (PTLC) and recrystallization etc. The structure of these compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods: 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT, 1H-1HCOSY, NOEDS, HMBC, HMQC, EI-MS, FAB-MS, HR-ESI-MS and IR.From Mulgedium tatarica, forty-one compounds were isolated, ten of them are new (RJ1-RJ10);from Adenocaulon himalaicum, thirteen compounds were isolated, among them, two are new (AH1-AH2), and from Equisetum ramosissimum, twenty-seven compounds were isolated, among them, nine compounds (ER1-ER5, ER15-ER17 and ER25-ER27) are the first report in Equisetum genusMoreover, using Sulforhodamine B (SRB) method, the anti-tumor activity ofsome compounds against human hepatoma (SMMC-7721), human normal liver (L02) and human acute promyelocytic leukemia (HL60) cells were tested. The 50% inhibitory concentration values (IC50) showed that RJ6, RJ13 and RJ15 had a higher inhibitory activity against SMMC-7721, L02 and HL60 cells. The antibacterial activities (Bacillus subtilis, Echerichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus) of some compounds were carried out according to the cup-plate method. The results indicated that RJ1 and RJ2 exhibited strong antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli. Finally, the structural characterization of taraxasterol-type triterpene was reviewed in the present thesis. |
