The obscurity of bioactive components and half-integrity of physicochemical properties of bioactive components in traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) are two obstacles in the research and development of TCMs. It is a beforehand job to clarify bioactive components, obtain physicochemical properties of bioactive components and characterize the interaction between the bioactive components and protein.Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is a rapid, powerful, low cost and multi-mode analytical technique. This disseration is focused on characterizing the bioactive components in TCMs, physicochemical properties of bioactive components and interaction between the bioactive components and protein by diverse capillary electrophoresis techniques. To investigate the physicochemical properties of bioactive components in TCMs, a CE method was developed to determine dissociation constants of Strychnos alkaloids. Furthermore, a mathematial model describing the relationship between migration times of alkaloids and their molecular weights in CE was also established and used to predict the migration order of the alkaloids of similar structure and to calculate the electroosmotic velocity. To investigate the stability of bioactive components in TCMs, a CE method was developed to determine the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters in ferulic acid's isomerization process. Firstly, the transversion product of trans-ferulic acid...
