Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is the most common cause of morbidity and mortality in the modern world, especially in the industrial countries, For quite a long time, a great number of scientific works have been engaged in the research about many aspects including pathology, physiology and treatment of the disease by means of animal models of myocardial ischemia and/or infarction with great success. The point is that previous animal models of IHD are, to a great extent, acute occlusions of branches of left coronary artery performed by open- chest operation. Some models are closed-chest but short in observation time, ischemia-reperfusion injury is a hot point in applied basic research in cardiology.
