Objective(1) To explore the association between high sensitive C-reactive protein and the positive rate of carotid arteries in the middle-and-aged population.(2) To analyze the relationship of high sensitive C-reactive protein and the characteristics of carotid arteries in B-mode ultrasonography.Methods2521 subjects (people' s republic of China-United states cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary epidemiology research), aged 35-64, in Shijingshan in Beijing attended the third survey of risk factors between 1993 and 1994. 1626 subjects with completed data were invited to take resurvey in Sep 2002, and 1392 subjects actually showed up at our clinic, the response rate was 85.9%, and 1202 subjects were performed to carotid arteries B -mode ultrasonography, with participation rate 86. 2%, in addition, 1329 subjects serum HS-CRP were assayed. Finally,1119 subjects(male 396,and female 723) with completed ultrasonography and HS-CRP data entered into our analysis. The inter- and intra-reproducibility of the measurements were assessed for the intima-media thickness (IMT), vessel interior diameter and plaque in 20 subjects. There was no statistically significant difference between two technicians for IMT, interior diameter and plaque areas, with r=0. 69, r=0. 83-0.90 and r=0. 95, respectively. As for plaque, the coincidence rate was 97. 5% between the two technicians (K= 0.950). The intra-reproducibility was evaluated between the first and the second measurements by each technician. The correlation was 0. 69 for IMT, 0. 69-0. 81 for interior diameter and 0. 83 for...
