The historical progress and the artistic achievement of Mongolian films between 1930 and 2000 are discussed in detail in thisdissertation. Since the film industry in Mongolia was founded with the help of the former Russia, a large number of excellent films have been produced for seventy years. Meanwhile, such mature genre films as epic films, war films, comedy films and children films were formed during this period. And these films not only have the characteristic style of Mongol nationality, but also have a great influence on the world movie circle. On the basis of independent research, the development process of Mongolian films during seventy years is divided into three stages; the initial development, prosperity, declination and transformation. And due to the historical reasons which are known to all, the film exchange between China and Mongolia is so limited that they have little idea about each other.Therefore, in the light of the films data gathered and the research achievement, this dissertation strives to draw the outline of the development of Mongolian films in the twentieth century, describes the creative features in different periods and analyzes the excellent works and the important directors of Mongolian films, expounds the aesthetical features of some main film generes.The dissertation consists of three parts. In the first part, the development track of Mongolian films in the twentieth century is described chronologically with several sections, and various features of artistic creation in different stages caused by the changes in the systematic, management, artistic concepts and production modes are generalized. In the second part, three main genre films in the twentieth’s Mongolia,namely, revolutionary wars, epics and comedies are selected as the research objects to profoundly interpret their ideological contents, expression techniques and other aspects so as to highlight the unique feature and style of Mongolian films from the viewpoint of various genres.As an important part of this dissertation, the third part mainly discusses the Mongolian three outstanding directors; De Jigejide, Re Daoejipalamu and Ha Damuding. These three directors are not only the most influential masters in Mongolian film industry so far,but their film creation stands for the top achievement of Mongolian films in the twentieth century.Meanwhile,they have made incomparable contribution to human being with their brilliant artistic talent and exquisite films. Thus, in this dissertation, the author makes every effort to let the historical value and aesthetic value of their films understood and appraised objectively.Since three aspects are involved in the research, the development history,genre features and directing styles of Mongolian films in the twentieth century,the multiple research methods especially the artistic analysis are applied from multiple viewpoint of embryology, sociology, culturology and so on. Mongolian films are set in the specific historical context of Mongolia.With diachronic and systematic organization of the creation course of over 70 years in Mongolian film industry. as well as the synchronic and comprehensive analysis of the main genre films and profound inquiry about the creative styles of some outstanding directors, an all-around cognition of the artistic transformation of Mongolian films in the twentieth century can be fulfilled.
