A Study Of Hezhen Nationality 's Folktales

This dissertation discusses the folk tales of Hezhe ethnic group.Based on the characteristics of the contents, they are divided into four categories:hero stories, Shaman stories, totem stories and local legends. Through the research on the narrative theme, role function and inheritance and evolution of the stories, the thesis attempts to explore the aesthetic value, moral value, cultural implications and psychological structure of Hezhe nationality from the perspective of story typology, narratology and cultural studies.The thesis consists of four sections:introduction, body, conclusion and references.The Introduction summaries the collections and research of the previous efforts, defines texts of the stories and clarifies the purpose, significance and methodology of the dissertation.The body section is composed of four sections. Chapter one studies on the heroic story of Hezhe nationality.It explores its narrative theme,role and its function and plot and motifs.It concludes that the heroic story of Hezhe nationality consists of two themes:war and marriage. In the heroic stories lies three types of roles:moriken and his opponent.As for narrative motifs, it mainly includes deformation,test and hero sworn. Through the interpretation of narrative structure and plot,the thesis reveals the deep cultural connotation of the heroic story of Hezhe nationality.The second chapter is about the research on animal totem story of Hezhe nationality.It explores the structure and narrative mode from type and plot,role function and inheritance and evolution.It suggests that the evolution of totem notion is the basis of totem story. There are three types of animal totem story and some of some have been listed in A-T classification category.Apart from above points,the thesis focuses on the inheritance, the function and cultural implications of animal totem story of Hezhe nationality in the social life.It theoretically summaries the evolutionary feature of totem story of Hezhe nationality.Chapter three conducts the research on shaman story of Hezhe nationality.It dicusses the origin of female shaman and its relationship with some original motifs.It also deals with the role and function of shaman story of Hezhe nationality.Compared with shaman story of other northern ethnic groups, the author points out the similarities and unique features of shaman story of Hezhe nationality.Chapter four researches on local customs and tales.It classifies Hezhe tales into the scenery legend,custom legend,fishing and hunting legend and love legend and interprets their implications and channels of transmissions.It also summarizes the characteristics of customs and tales of Hezhe nationality.The conclusion summarizes the major arguments and inadequate points of the thesis.The possibilities of the further research have been suggested.
