Zhuzi Yu Lei is a record of the questions and answers between Zhu Xi, the great Confucian scholar of Song dynasty, and his disciples. It is not only a manifestation of Zhu Xi’s idealist Confucian philosophy, but also a reflection of the general social, economic, and cultural outlook of Song dynasty. The compiling of Zhuzi Yu Lei has referred to the "five records" and the "three collections", among which Hui’an xian sheng Zhu Wen’gong yu lu (abbreviated to Chi Lu in the following texts) is one of the earliest editions of quotations from Zhuzi. There also existed several other important editions, such as:Zhuzi Yu Lei edited by Huang Shiyi, Zhuzi Yu Lei edited by Li Jingde, Hui An Xian Sheng Yu Lu Da Gang Ling and Zhuzi Yu Lue, Hui An Xian Sheng Yu Lu Lei Yao. The comprehensive study on all the editions have not started up to now.The variant texts not only make great contribution to the study on editions, but also reflect the development of Chinese. There are 500 pairs of phrases of variant texts in different editions involving the aspects of Chinese characters, vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar. The difference between Chi Lu, the earliest editions of quotations from Zhuzi, and the editions in Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty reflect the evolution of Chinese from Song Dynasty to date.This thesis focuses on the study of the different language materials on the basis of fulltext comparison and proofreading between Chi Lu and Zhuzi Yu Lei. The thesis consists of five chapters.The forewords briefly review the previous research done by the scholars since the beginning of 20th century, and propose the methodology of the thesis and its significance.The first chapter elaborates on the general situation of Yu Lu and Yu Lei and their existies different editions.The second chapter briefly introduces the vocabulary recorded by different editions which reflected the society in all directions. The feature of vocabulary recorded by different editions contains substitute from classical Chinese to vernacular Chinese, substitute of vulgar language and spoken language and unification of meanings in specific context.The third chapter focuses on the composition of the vocabulary recorded by different editions by analyzing the substitute of equal-syllable and unequal-syllable vocabulary.The fourth chapter inspects the vocabulary recorded by different editions from the aspect of vocabulary system, such as the words groups with the meaning of Watch, Now, Past, Language, Know. Little, Cautious, Slight, Things.The fifth chapter analyzes the usage of Chinese characters in different editions, and also identifies some variant Chinese characters.The appendix lists the collation of Hui An Xian Sheng Zhu Wen Gong Yu Lu.
