Chinese graphic design education has experienced the cultivation of manual education, technology education and patterns education, and developed from practical art and commercial art. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, it experienced decoration art, decoration design, decoration art design, graphic design, visual communication design and the evolution of other education contents and forms, and it continuously explored, developed and improved, so now it has become an education type which has the largest scale and biggest achievements and develops most quickly in China. Especially since the reform and opening, the development of social politics, economy and culture provides broad platforms and good opportunities for China’s graphic design education and practice in new period. First of all, this paper aims to study the Chinese graphic design education curriculum and its teaching development process, and it systematically and objectively analyzed and arranged China’s graphic design education development situation. Meanwhile, it discussed different forms evolution of graphic design respectively from the perspective of the evolution of professional names and the transformation of plane design disciplines, and it also elaborated various related situations of decoration art specialty, graphic design specialty, visual communication design specialty and so on. Secondly, through the understanding of course catalogue, training objective, teaching outline, etc., this paper discussed the situation and state of teaching system and teaching reform development of graphic design discipline; Thirdly, through discussing the curriculum structure, curriculum setting and curriculum design of graphic design, it further elaborated the research on the teaching way and teaching method of graphic design education; The description of the development of teaching contents discussed the variation of curriculum setting and the rewriting of curriculum structure; It also analyzed the teaching characteristics of representative institutions and different kinds of colleges and universities, and elaborated and demonstrated the patterns and forms in graphic design and the introduction and influence of foreign teaching. Based on “problem consciousness”, it made a critical summary on the problems existing in plane design education development.Through studying the related fields of modern Chinese graphic design education, and through the horizontal and vertical research thought, this paper obtained a more macro mastery of modern graphic design education, which has a reference significance and theoretical meaning for enriching and perfecting the modern Chinese design education system; This subject’s research achievements have a guiding significance for the contemporary visual communication design education and the related design specialty, and they enriched the contents of professional education. More importantly, they can provide inspirations in the practical education process.
