China’s apple planting area and output has been growing steadily since1995.At present,cultivated area and yield rank first in the world. In2011, apple planting area and yieldreached2.1773million hectares and35.985million tons. However, apple export growth issignificantly lower than that of output growth. The total apple export volume was1.0346million tons in2011,2.88%of total apple output, a drop from4.14%in1978to2.88%in2011. Meanwhile, steady growth in apple export trade also faces many problems and severechallenges, especially the optimization of export trade geography structure. With theemergence of new international trade pattern brought about by trade between developedcountries and the rapid development of industry inner trade, transfer from seller market tobuyer market, and ever increasing effect of export trade market structure on trade, exploringways of optimizing apple export trade geography structure will have theoretical and practicalsignificance for sustainable development of apple industry.The paper, based on the above background, related product trade theories, review andsummary of domestic and foreign literature, by adopting a combined approach of normativeand empirical analysis, conducts research on china apple export trade geography structure.The paper includes three parts and eight chapters based on logical relation and structure.The first part(chapter1-2) is research design, theoretical reasoning and analysis. Thispart mainly discusses research background, purpose and significance, makes systematic andobjective comment on related domestic and foreign research literature and advances, anddetermines research approach, method and innovation points. From the prospective ofeconomics and international trade, the paper defines the connotation and extension of exporttrade structure and export trade geography structure, constructs theoretical framework ofchina apple export trade geography structure study on the basis of traditional and moderntrade.The second part (chapter3-7) is basis analysis and systematic analysis. It’s the key partof the paper. First, by adopting qualitative and quantitative method, the paper conductssystematic study on china apple production and export trade situation. Then, empiricalanalysis is conducted on china apple export trade geography structure from domestic and international geography structure, and by constructing gravity model, factors affectinggeography structure are analyzed. Besides, future orientation of china apple geographystructure is analyzed based on analysis results of chapter three to six and china apple exportcompetitiveness.The third part is conclusion and suggestions. The conclusions are as follows; in terms ofdomestic geography structure of apple export, export region centers on Bohai Bay area, andthere is obvious difference in export regions, with a tendency of narrowing difference;Second, from the prospective of apple export international geography, apple export focuseson Asia and Europe, and there is a rising tendency in export centralized degree of volatilityand export instability. Third, the main factors affecting apple export geography structure areconcluded as follows: apple output, spatial distance between china and export trade nations,apple price of target export countries, GDP and WTO members, ASEAN and Middle Easterncountries of export trading partners. Fourth, in general, China’s apple export competitivenessis relatively low. Therefore, in the future, apple export geography structure should be built onthe premise of solidating Asian market, broadening EU market, expanding Africa and LatinAmerican market, weakening North and South American market, focusing on low-end market,actively expanding middle and high-end market, cautiously exporting in high-end market, sothat moderate centralized pattern based on partial diversification can be taken shape. Besides,three suggestions are also proposed based on the conclusions.
