The Eleventh National Economic and Social Development Plan of Thailand andThailand’s National Tourism Development Plan supports the plan to expand Thailand’stourism industry by emphasizing on ameliorating and developing transportation systemfor Thailand to be the leader of tourism and hospitality industry. Moreover, the planscorrespondingly conform to the National Transportation Development Strategy or7-year Investment on Transport Fundamentals (2013-2020). Thailand’s government haspushed ahead to finance the infrastructure mega-projects. The most money will be spenton rail transport development in an aim of using such means to link all MekongSubregion countries in the future.The purpose of this research was to provide guidelines for Bangkok to developcomponents of tourism industry for a Greater Mekong Subregion railways touringaccording to the results derived from the mixed methods research, dominant–lessdominant design, using EDFR technique, survey research, and focus group discussion.Mean, Mode, Median, Interquartile Range, and Standard Deviation were utilized forinterpretation of the data.The new innovation of this research is the guidelines for Bangkok to developcomponents of tourism industry for a Greater Mekong Subregion railways touring. Theguidelines emphasizing on developing5core elements of tourism industry of Thailand:Public Administration, Private Management, Components of Tourism Resource,Tourism Business, and Tourism Marketing Mix, in order to support and work well withthe aforementioned and future national plans.Results from the research, the guidelines for Bangkok to develop components oftourism industry for a Greater Mekong Subregion railways touring were found that:①The guidelines for Bangkok to develop components of tourism industry for aGreater Mekong Subregion railways touring could be divided into five parts with43significant issues. There were to consisting of9,8,9,8, and9significant issuesconcerning Bangkok tourism development in the aspect of Public Administration,Private Management, Components of Tourism Resource, Tourism Business, andTourism Marketing Mix respectively. The most significant issues of all aspects were asfollowed;-Public Administration: Government sector should encourage tourism research of a Greater Mekong Subregion railways touring.(Md=4.688,|Md-Mo|=0.312, IR=1.177)-Private Management: Private sector should take a key role in developingBangkok tourism business.(Md=4.909,|Md-Mo|=0.091, IR=0.591)-Components of Tourism Resources: Bangkok should have appropriate culturaltourism resources for a Greater Mekong Subregion railways touring.(Md=5.000,|Md-Mo|=0.000, IR=0.500)-Tourism Business: Bangkok should develop food and beverage business tosupport a Greater Mekong Subregion railways touring.(Md=4.909,|Md-Mo|=0.091,IR=0.591) and Bangkok should develop travel agency business to support a GreaterMekong Subregion railways touring.(Md=4.909,|Md-Mo|=0.091, IR=0.591)-Tourism Marketing Mix: Bangkok tourist attractions should be varied andnumerous enough which can meet the tourists’ needs.(Md=4.958,|Md-Mo|=0.042,IR=0.541), The admission of each to the Bangkok tourist attraction should bereasonable and worthwhile.(Md=4.958,|Md-Mo|=0.042, IR=0.541), and thetourism service fees and product prices should be reasonable and worthwhile.(Md=4.958,|Md-Mo|=0.042, IR=0.541)②the highest percentage of Thai and foreign tourist respondents had ever usedThailand railway services for travelling (TH=100.000%, TO=56.500%), the maintransportation mode of your visit from Bangkok to other provinces in Thailand was theroad transport (TH=61.500%, TO=53.000%), had ever been to other countries inGreater Mekong Subregion (TH=74.500%, TO=68.250%), had information ontravelling in Greater Mekong Subregion, But they want more information (TH=71.750%, TO=52.250%).100%of them interested to visit other countries in GreaterMekong Subregion through Greater Mekong Subregion Railways in the future.③The guideline model for Bangkok to develop components of tourism industryfor a Greater Mekong Subregion railways touring were composed of3majorcomponents. There were1) Regulator and controller which consisted of PublicAdministration (Government sector), Private Management (Private sector).2) Tourismdevelopment tools which consisted of Components of Tourism Resource, TourismBusiness, and Tourism Marketing Mix.3) Supplementary factor which referred totourist behavior of Thai and foreign respondents towards traveling in Bangkok andGreater Mekong Subregion.④According to Thai citizens’ and tourists’ travel demand analysis, it is, in a nutshell, discovered that Greater Mekong Subregion trains are another option for thosewho would like to travel far distances since the trains have competitiveness againstother means of transportation namely airplanes, trains, and private automobiles.⑤According to the analysis of other countries’ rail system development forGreater Mekong Subregion tourism, the linkage of Thailand’s rail transportation withthe bordering countries’ is commenced by the Twelfth National Economic and SocialDevelopment Plan of the People’s Republic of China (2011-2015). The plan determinedthat Yunnan province was the center and the link connecting the Southwest China withbordering countries in Southeast Asia. On top of that, there are Dawei deep sea portproject and Dawei special economic zone which are joint venture projects carried out bythe countries in Greater Mekong Subregion. The countries foresee the consequences ofGreater Mekong Subregion trains and start to study and advance construction policiesobtained the supports from the People’s Republic of China and Asian DevelopmentBank.⑥According to the analysis of the linkage of Thailand’s rail transportation systemwith the bordering countries’, Thailand’s railway routes can be categorized into4mainroutes: North route, Northeast route, East route, and South route. In terms of landtransportation geography, being the center of the Greater Mekong Subregion grantsBangkok strong competitiveness to potentially connect with major cities in otherregions using high-speed rail transportation system; thus, rendering the provinceinarguably become the most potential city using rail transportation system.
