Studies On Sustainable Development Of Tourism Industry In Bangkok Of Thailand

The tourism industry,the world's largest,the best promising,the fastest"sunrise industry" or "green industry",is endowed with such characteristics as small resource consumption,multiple employment opportunities,large multiplier effect and good comprehensive benefits.Its increasingly significant economic function and its great impetus for the local economic development make it an important method for the economic revitalization of many countries in the world.Thailand is a country famous for the tourism industry,thus rich in tourism resources.The tourism industry in Thailand has been progressing from the initial stage to the current prosperity.The good momentum of development as it is,the healthy and sustainable development of the tourism industry in Thailand has become more and more urgent.Bangkok,the window of Thailand's tourism industry,is the heart of that industry.Being the national center for politics,economy,transportation,culture,education,medical care and communications,enhanced with the combination of classical and modern developments and the integration of history,culture and society,thus being richly endowed with unique tourism advantages,Bangkok' s tourism industry has completed a rapid development.According to the statistics published on the official website of Thailand Tourism Bureau,in 2015,Bangkok tourism revenue is up to 537 trillion and 200 billion baht,contributing as highly as 32%to the total tourism income of Thailand(1,678 trillion and 900 billion baht).Bangkok's tourism industry has evidently become a top priority in the development of tourism in Thailand,greatly boosting the economic development of the surrounding cities and farther provinces.When Bangkok prospers,so will Thailand;in this sense,the prosperity of the tourism industry in Bangkok has faced with many challenges indispensable with the sustainable development of tourism industry,which is also the epitome of the whole development of Thailand.Under the current volatile external environment,how to reshape the competitive advantages of tourism to meet the growing diverse needs of the main source countries,how to promote the transformation and upgrading of tourism industry and city structure,and how to inject lasting power into the tourism industry of Bangkok and other surrounding areas and even the whole country of Thailand are all pointing to a sustainable development,a must to those above-mentioned goals.Therefore,this dissertation,after studying related literatures found in China and other countries and categorizing those relevant literatures on the sustainable development of tourism industry and on the development of Bangkok tourism industry,has analyzed the resources and the present situation for a sustainable development of the tourism industry in Bangkok of Thailand.On that basis,the research is carried out separately from the industrial point of view and the perspective of the residents.On the one hand,the efficiency of the sustainable development of the tourism industry in Bangkok is studied from the industrial point of view,based on the statistical data of the 76 provinces of Thailand which is analyzed by means of the data envelopment analysis(DEA)to evaluate the efficiency of the sustainable development of the tourism industry in those provinces of Thailand to illustrate the status of Bangkok ' s tourism and its position in Thailand.The research shows that the efficiency of the sustainable development of the tourism industry of Bangkok is in an effective and leading position in Thailand.On the other hand,by using questionnaires and the TPB model,the investigation in the perspective of the residents is carried out to find out those factors affecting the sustainable development of tourism in Bangkok and the motivation to encourage active behaviors from the residents.The investigation shows that the tourism infrastructure is an important material carrier for the sustainable development of the tourism industry in Bangkok of Thailand;behavior intention is the driving force for the local residents to make their decisions for the sustainable development of the tourism industry in Bangkok;profit is the essential reason for the differences between the real behaviors of the local residents for the sustainable development of Bangkok' s tourism industry;and cognitive intervention is the effective way to promote the recognition of the local residents to the sustainable development of tourism industry.Based on the above analyses,the dissertation is furthered,in line with the environmental protection,the application of new technologies,the personnel training,the strengthened legislation,the improved management,the focusing on human resources heritage,the enhanced publication,the integration of resources,and the improvement of infrastructure,totally nine aspects,to propose some strategies for the promotion of the sustainable development of Bangkok ' s tourism industry.
