Enterprise is the basic unit of social productivity development and economic progress, and its transformation and growth improve the rise of new industries and the transformation and development of regional economies. Under the background of macroeconomic transformation and the rising of medium-sized and small enterprises, this thesis mainly studies the growth process of enterprise under dynamic environment, to reveal the significance of enterprise capability and its capability system to the growth and management of enterprise.Researches on the growth and motivation of enterprise have always been an intensely focus of the theory and practice of enterprise management. The economic explanations on enterprise growth emphasize the exogenous growth of enterprise, i.e., external environment offers large spaces for enterprise to pursue growth, and this forms its growth frontier. As a production unit, by employing interior division and large-scale production, equilibrium is achieved in certain enterprise. This process accords basically with the characterization of enterprise at the initial stage for industrialization. However, this description takes internal operations of individual firms as a "Black Box", which cannot make a clear explanation on the growth differences of individual enterprise objectively.The enterprise growth theory makes an intensive study on the underlying causes of enterprise growth. It starts from the occupied, value-creating and special resources. Actually, differences in resource endowment come from the special capability of individual enterprise. The emergence and development of enterprise core capability theory explores the research of enterprise growth theory into its internal capacity and its effect to explain the competitive differentiation between firms. Meanwhile, the dynamic capability and dynamic core capability theory studies the changes of enterprise capability and its growth process under dynamic environment, which includes the effect of enterprise capability on its growth process through knowledge and learning. This make the research on enterprise capability theory fits the real growth process and environment. In fact, the enrichment and diversification of enterprise capability theory is the result of studies under different situations and different aspects, and most different results is based on the different understanding of enterprise capability. However, the non-unity-based understanding of enterprise capability connotation has seriously affected the development of capability theory. Based on the research findings of enterprise capability, enterprise growth factors and mode, this thesis tries to sum up and structure an enterprise capability hierarchical system. This system can not only specify and explain the exiting mode of enterprise, but recognize the enterprise transformation and growth process in general sense from the perspective of the evolution of capability system and the transformation process.This thesis believes that the transformation and growth of enterprise can realize under the joint effect of dynamic environment and capability evolution. Based on this, this thesis puts forward an enterprise growth process model, i.e.,"environment-capability-transformation-growth". This model describes two kinds of growth under the process of dynamic environment, that is, intergenerational growth and intra-generational growth. The former is the growth caused by product or business transformation; and the latter mainly caused by capability evolution and capability system transformation in different growth phases. This model also constructs and explains the relationship between enterprise capability and its transformation and growth. This thesis will make a contribution to the research on the constitution of capability system and growth process in the theory of enterprise growth theory.Taking a typical high-tech enterprise as a case, by employing grounded theory, this thesis studies the influences of internal and external factors in different growth stages on the evolution of capability system; the interactive relation between capability and transformation; and their common effect to the growth of enterprise. This thesis puts forward the relations between sustainable growth, transformation and capability system, i.e., transformation is the key factor of qualitative changes of enterprise growth; capability system is the basic ingredient to realize transformation; and enterprise growth is joint effected by capability and transformation. In addition, this thesis brings forward an integrated model of enterprise growth process based on the relation and function research on capability, transformation and growth, and applies this model to typical case study. It is turned out that this model meets the operation and development law of modern enterprise.The main results of this thesis are as follows:(1). Enterprise capabilities can be divided into three aspects according to their roles, i.e., leading capabilities, dynamic capabilities and functional capabilities. The capability system is composed mainly of sub-level capabilities; in addition, the mutual affect of different capabilities and capability aspects form the capability system and it will be changed in the growth process;(2). The transformation in the enterprise growth process can be summarized as three categories:business transformation, governance transformation and management transformation. The mutual effect between transformation and capability system promotes the enterprise growth;(3). Under dynamic environment, the process enterprise transformation and growth is the joint effect of evolution of capability system and transformation.The innovation point of the thesis mainly includes:(1). To explore the process of enterprise transformation and growth from the perspective of capability evolution, and enrich and develop the enterprise growth theory;(2). To sum up the categories of transformation in enterprise growth completely, and its relations and effect with enterprise capability in the process of enterprise growth;(3). To construct enterprise capability system, and try to describe management transformation and its growth process from the view of dynamic evolution of capability system. This system can describe enterprise capability status and its development process. This will help to study the role of capability structure, and the growth process from the evolution of capability system and the mode of transformation. To sum up, this thesis opens a new field of the research on capability, transformation and growth.Through the investigation on structure of enterprise capability system and mutual effect of capability and transformation, this paper enrich and develop the enterprise growth theory from the microcosmic level of capability system evolution, and this makes this thesis have great theoretic implication. In addition, the results of this paper can explain the role of capability system dynamic changes on enterprise transformation and growth. This will help grasp the law of capability construct and its evolution simultaneously, and implement enterprise management transformation actively and realize sustainable growth. This will also provide a guideline for the management of enterprise growth.
