In the context of the continuous consolidation of global economic integration and the transformation and upgrading of China's economy, enterprises are facing a dynamic environment which is full of complexity and polytrope. The competitions between enterprises are increasing,so that the competitive advantage established in the stable environment is challenged or eroded, and the enterprises' life cycle are shortened. In the same industry competition, the productivity level and the performance of the enterprises are not quite similar. The concept of capability is widely used to explain the difference of organizational performance. Moreover, enterprise capability is not static, with the impact of internal and external factors in both positive and negative changes in the direction of the final trend of the two results that the ability to decline or update. Therefore, the promotion of capacity enhancement and the avoidance of capacity decline have become "must" rather than"alternative" for enterprises' survival and development. For enterprise,in order to obtain sustainable competitive advantage,it have to find a path which could adapt to the current evolution environment.Firstly, this paper analyses the basic concepts, research contents, main school viewpoints, literature review and theoretical analysis of Resource-Based-.View,Dynamic Capabilities Theory and Life-Cycle Theory, and expatiates on the related research on capability evolution.Secondly, this paper analyses the evolution of case enterprises' capability, based on the three dimensions(information technology capability, capital operation capability and management decision-making capability).Information technology capability can be distributed into three sub-dimensions:IT technology resources,IT human resources and IT system practices. Moreover, capital operation capability and management decision-making capability will be analyzed by the various stages based on the enterprises'life cycle.By analyzing the typical events of the three stages(the initial stage, the growth period and the maturity stage)to summarize the potential laws, and the "black box" of the dynamic evolution of the enterprise capability is revealed. Finally, this paper will select the typical software development capabilities as a representative, based on the selected case. The multi-version product development simulation model is designed by using the theory of system dynamics to capture the observed dynamic mechanism and the manager's behavior in the process, and verify the existence of the "capability trap" in the dynamic evolution of the enterprise,in order to improve the research on the path of the whole capability evolution. This paper draws the following conclusions:(1)information technology capability, capital operation capability, management decision-making capability of the enterprises all have a positive and significant effect on competitive advantage;(2)the enterprise capability follow the law of evolution with environmental adaptability and the evolution path of "enterprise resources?organizational routine?capability?core competence";(3)enterprises in different stages of the life cycle need to choose and cultivate different capability;(4)enterprise managers play a vital role in evading the capability trap.In the end, this paper summarizes and points out the shortcomings of the research and the prospect of future research.
