Self-Organizing Evolution Process, Mechanism And Space Paradigm Of County Urbanization In Hubei Province

Central and western China has been lagging behind urbanization, the slow development of the county economy and county urbanizationis the main reason. Under the circumstance, the county town characteristics and laws have aroused general concern with the occurrence of the "New Urbanization" strategy and "to Guide Approximately100Million People in the Nearby Towns of the Midwest" advocated by the nation.The self-organization theory is an effective tool to reveal the evolution of urbanization, mechanisms and spatial organization. Firstly, by means of the theoretical construction of urbanization "external effect-internal effect-border effect" model of dynamic evolution mechanism, the paper has investigated Hubei county urbanization process and the dynamic mechanism of evolution. Secondly, a single composite index sorting and clustering method have been applied to make a horizontal comparison and classification of Hubei Province County urbanization. Finally, by selecting the typical cases, applying the statistics and spatial fractal analysis induction method, the paper has conducted an in-depth analysis and exploration on the performance characteristics for each type of the county’s self-organization and spatial structure and the space paradigm has been proposed on the basis of the trend.The study has found that:(1) Since the establishment of the PRC, the county in Hubei self-organizing evolutionary process of urbanization has experienced the following four developing process:"suspending and atrophy period-compensatory increase period-discrepancy evolution period-depth differentiation period" and its gradual evolution has gone towards open, competitive differentiation and reorganization.(2) The overall performance of the County of Hubei Province Urbanization self-organizing dynamic mechanism has manifested as the following:the weak external role, the internal polarization effect, the effect of inhibiting the border.(3) The differences between Hubei county urbanization depends largely on the impact of macro-geographical conditions and traffic location which can be broadly divided into three types:metropolitan suburban county, agriculture developed county in plain, undeveloped county in mountain.(4) Metropolitan suburban county is a type of fast-growing urbanization pattern which resulted from the metropolitan cities function sprawling. Its spatial organization presents its organizational structure by polarization (U-form) features, and gradually transforms to the self-balancing organizational structure (M-form) into a trend. Its space paradigm is: new towns group guidance, suburba-nearby-far suburban sector distribution, transportation outward radiation plus double heart ring.(5) Agriculture developed county in plain is a type of relatively fast-growing urbanization pattern which led by the regional transportation. Its spatial organization presents the prototype of its features from the polarized organization (U-form), and gradually becomes complete and perfect. Its space paradigm is:center city and sub-center cities guidance, multi-axis multi-point distribution of urban, transportation center of radiation plus spindle driven.(6) Undeveloped county in mountain is a type of slow-growing urbanization pattern which is maintained by several weak force. Its spatial organization presents its differentiation from the structure (S-form) characteristics of the organization, and there is the self-polarization organization (U-form) coming into a trend. Its space paradigm is:to lead the city center plus the town center, the town "center and valley" centralized distribution, twiggy transportation from center to region, palmate sprawling to the valley.Through the above study results, the paper has revealed the common features and differences between the three typical counties of Hubei county urbanization and has provided a theoretical basis for the differences in the spatial organization of the county urbanization and the promote strategies. Meanwhile, the study of the laws of self-organization urbanization has enriched and improvedthe theory cognition of the urbanization evolution process, the dynamic mechanism and the spatial organization.
