The Study Of Modern Japanese Management Philosophy

Japanese style management is a currently-recognized independent management mode which is different from western management system. Its uniqueness comes from Japanese management practice and the way of thinking behind the practice, that is, Japanese management philosophy. Japanese management philosophy is formed in the specific historical and cultural background, which is the product of constant learning and acceptance about foreign cultures in Japan’s development process. On the basis of its native culture, Japan has absorbed and integrated the spiritual achievements of the eastern and Western cultures and ultimately formed Japanese national spirit and thinking traits of each class such as scholars, farmers, artisans and merchants. After the establishment of modern enterprises, the spirit and traits have gradually internalized as the enterprise management thought through the entrepreneurs’ management practices and experts’ theoretical research, then formed the three philosophical dimensions, namely national identity, moral integrity and diligence psychology, and thus generated "community of destiny" between individual and collective, "community of interest" between company and country, "community of ethics” in the corporate value and "community of practice" in the corporate behavior, and finally constituted the complete philosophy system of Japanese style management. When applied in the Japanese enterprise management practice this management philosophy has spawned organization, decision-making, personnel, production system of Japanese cultural characteristics. The contemporary Japan has undergone a great change in culture and social development, therefore Japanese management philosophy must make self adjustment to conform to trend and ensure the competitiveness and vitality of Japanese enterprises and Japanese management mode. Finally, given the special cultural relationship between Japan and China, the study on Japanese management philosophy will also provide theoretical and practical reference and enlightenment to Chinese management philosophy construction.
