Solid-wood-framework furniture has a long history in China. Up to the present, it still occupies an important position in the furniture industry. However, the current structural design still mainly relies on experienced analogy and simple calculation. Also, the main method of furniture mechanics capability testing is the integral destructive experimentation. Only a few researches concern structural mechanics capability and those researches do not bring integrated designing theories, so that they can not provide scientific, efficient and quantificational methods for furniture structural mechanics design. The theory of FEM (Finite Element Method) was introduced to furniture structural design in this thesis. The theoretical foundation, system construction and concrete method that concern structural mechanics were explored and computer finite element simulation analysis was applied in this research. Simulated analysis and calculation of furniture mechanics capability were done through ANSYS t finite element analyzing software. Also, the building thoughts and components of computer aided design system that concerns furniture structure mechanics were put forward in this thesis. On the basis of these researches, it can conclude as follows:(1) Elastic constants and mechanical property of 18 species wood were tested in this research. These parameters of material are the basis of computer simulated calculation through FEM.(2) Classification research on furniture member forms of Chairs, Tables and Cabinets of Chinese traditional were made in this thesis and the results are the foundation of building solid models.(3) The basic ideas and simplifying principles of building solid models were established in this thesis, which can ensure the rationality and veracity of building 3D solid furniture models. (4) Through analyzing research objects with the method of computer finite element simulatedcalculation. it proves that FEM and the ANSYS software are applicable to the furniture structural mechanics design and determination. This thesis firstly integrates kinds of researching fields as a whole system research, such as furniture material capability, structural mechanics, FEM, computer modeling, simulated calculation and analysis. It is a kind of crossover study and frontier research. Based on systematic and quantitative researches, this thesis provides a new research method and developing direction for furniture structural mechanics design.
