A Research On Evidence-based Architectural Design For Green Building

During the study of evidence-based design in vegetal architecture, I found the value of "information" in the study of architecture digitalization, and got to know the importance of the acquisition of "evidence" while confused about the goal of vegetal architecture. After I accidentally learned of the concept "evidence-based medicine", the proposition of "evidence-based design" formed naturally. Architects need to "do evidence-based design", teachers to "teach a rational architecture" and researchers to "make exact observation of reality and honest writing". The thought of "evidence-based" entails the most basic professional values in architecture, and has become the basis of the professional conduct for the author of this paper."Evidence-based design" in architecture namely, the design based on evidence, can be defined as "a design scheme by careful, accurate and wise application of the best evidence currently available, coupled with the professional skills and years of project experience of architects and the consideration of the owner's values and wishes." This dissertation subdivided the research of "evidence-based design" into several topics like the tool, goal and behavior of modern architectural design, and further expanded to some derivative studies.Evidence-based design is rational, and is made possible by digital architecture, which introduces a rational approach into architecture via evidence-based behavior, etc. The second chapter "digital architecture issues" made a deep observation of digitalization and discussed issues such as "digital tools", "traditional design", "integration methods" and "information phenomenon", etc. The emphasis on "building lifecycle", during which happens information flow, is one of the observation methods in the study of architectural "design-construction" process in dynamic or panoramic information age.Evidence-based design faces reality and is needed by vegetal architecture. Vegetal architecture is more than just an architectural issue, but it has some social significance. The third chapter "vegetal architecture issues" made a non-traditional explanation of the architecture traditions, including the demands of vegetal architecture on "architecture", "building", "architectural theories" and "architectural history". Such clarification is paved the way for the understanding of the great concept "architectural logic" and of the complexity of architectural system, for the future development of vegetal architecture and for the leap of construction logic.Evidence-based design has a moral significance, for the concept itself derives from evidence-based medicine. Evidence-based design, by its rational demand on evidence, has an impact on the behavior in design. Chapter four "issues of evidence-based design" is in fact the study of "architects" and introduced concepts such as "prognosis", "unction", "best evidence", etc. It also discussed the using values of "statistics", "data mining" and "counter-engineering" in architecture. All these are the further explanation of the value of "evidence" and at the same time, it's a prediction of the development of evidence-based design itself.Evidence-based design goes beyond the boundary of vegetal architecture, there being a room for its multiple expansion. The modern architecture had established the field of environmental control and environment-behavior studies. Chapter five "derivative issues", under the thinking mechanism of "evidence-based", made a specific study of "building" and "architectural space", and resented the propositions of "integrated construction" and "identification accessibility". Based on the parallel between doctors, architects and teachers, I introduced the concept of "evidence-based education" and noticed the existence of education science, which is taken as the evidence for architectural education.The thought of "evidence-based" and the behavior of "evidence-based design" derived from it, between digital and vegetal architecture, is a revelation in regressing to the basic, fundamental principles.
