Since the21st century, various complex problems floods popular research in various areas. In the product engineering area, manufacturing enterprises are faced with unprecedented market competition, and in order to meet customer requirements, product systems are becoming more and more complicated. The complex natures of the systems make system design more and more difficult for designers, the evolution vigor of product systems are deeply influenced as well. Faced with the problems, a large number of scholars make efforts to inject new evolution vigor into product systems from the standpoint of innovation research, and the concept of complex product systems is exactly proposed under the precondition.At the same time, the modular design technologies are widely studied and utilized and have become important methods for coping with complex problems in product systems. However, dynamic evolution is the essential appeal of a product system, which means that even if modular design technologies are applied, the product systems are still required to evolve for keeping energetic in the market in terms of external factors such as the market. Therefore, evolution is the fundamentality of the complexity of the product systems. With modular design technology being adapted widely, complex product systems evolves towards complex modular product systems. This paper focused on the issues of modeling and evolution of the complex modular product systems.In the first chapter, the research background of this paper was analyzed. The importance of research on the modeling and evolution of the complex modular product systems was pointed out. The main content, idea and the priority of this paper were put forward combined with the research work done by our research group. The architecture of this paper was proposed in the end of this chapter.In the Chapter Two, fundamental principles and technology architecture of the modeling and evolution of the complex modular product systems were introduced. In association with the research framework of the modeling and evolution of the complex modular product systems, the software system framework and product system instance involved in the empirical research of this paper were presented. In the Chapter Three, the characteristics of the complex modular product systems were analyzed. The characteristics normalization technology for the modeling of the complex modular product systems was proposed, which was on the premise of unified modeling theory. Moreover, a normalized management framework for modeling properties was put forward, which was used for the management of modeling characteristics and the application of modeling.In the4th Chapter, based on properties modeling technology and network modeling technology, the modeling technology for the complex modular product systems was proposed. The unified modeling theory as its frame, this kind of technology was expanded from three levels (properties, elements, system) of the complex modular product systems. Finally, a mature modeling architecture was shaped.The5th Chapter focused on the evolution, and based on the quantification theory of characteristic and quantitative techniques in network science, the quantitative evaluation technology for the evolution condition of the complex modular product systems was brought forward.In the6th Chapter, the dynamic characteristics of the evolution of the complex modular product systems were discussed. The paper modeled the evolution dynamic of the complex modular product systems on the basis of the complex adaptive systems theory. Additionally, the analysis technology for the dynamic evolution of the complex modular product systems was concluded.The7th Chapter was the summary of the research work. The innovations were pointed out. Also, the future development of this research was prospected.
