Based on the research object of ship electric propulsion system, this paper puts forward a general design scheme to simulate a marine electric propulsion system whose propulsion and load system adopt three phase asynchronous motors, according to the characteristics of marine electric propulsion system. And then a half-physical simulation device is established. This device consists of propulsion frequency converter, propulsion motor, load frequency converter, load motor and control unit. The propulsion frequency converter, propulsion motor and control unit make up a propulsion subsystem, which is applied to simulate the characteristics of propulsion motor. The load frequency converter, load motor and load control unit make up a load subsystem.This paper deals with the simulation experimental research of three kinds of PWM technology - SPWM variable voltage variable frequency, HIPWM variable voltage variable frequency, lowest switching loss PWM variable voltage variable frequency - after the analysis of mechanical characteristics when the asynchronous motor is under the basic control method of variable frequency variable speed and under the coordinating control of voltage and frequency, as well as the variable frequency variable speed technology. Then the paper established an experimental drive device of the propulsion motor with inversion controller of TMS320F2407A from Tl to validate the SPWM variable voltage variable frequency and the HIPWM variable voltage variable frequency technology. The experimental result shows that the application of optimized SPWM technology improves the voltage utilization rate higher than 20% if compared with the application of traditional SPWM technology. In addition, this paper puts forward a new type of topology combination mode of improved cascade multi-level inversion circuit that makes sufficient use of merits that the binistors of GTO, IGCT, IEGT, etc., are able to endure high voltage and the binistors of IGBT, MOSFET, etc., are with very high switching speed. And then, a kind of control algorithm that fits for the topology of that power converter is given and the simulation research is fulfilled.
