Clinical Research Of Advanced Nonsmall Cell Lung Cancer Treated With Modified Sha Shen Mai Dong Decoction And Chemotherapy

AIM:Non-small cell lung cancer is one of the most common malignant tumor. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment are used to treat it but wth little success. According to TCM theory and integrating with clinical experience, this study treat Non-small cell lung cancer with Modified Sha Shen Mai Dong Decoction and Chemotherapy.Quality of life, immunity function, Progression of disease and evaluation of the safety are observed.METHODS:Forty-three patients with non-small-cell lung cancer are included in this study and divided into two groups. One is treatment group inclued twenty-two patients.These patients are treated with chemotherapy and Modified Sha Shen Mai Dong Decoction.The other is control group inclued twenty-one patients. They are treated with chemotherapy. The first day of chemotherapy to the last day of second cycle chemotherapy is a course.Quality of life, syndromes of disease and immunity function are analyzed by statistics as major indicators. Lesions size, tumor markers and evaluation of the safety and observed as minor indicators.RESULTS:Karnofsky Performance Status of the patients in treatment group is significantly increased compared with those in the control group. The score in the most domains of EORTC QLQ-C43 QOL is decreased in functional scales but increased in symptom scales, which means the quality of life is deteriorated. While in treatment group, the score in symptom scales and EORTC QLQ-LC43 is decreased. Which means the symptom is reduced.The scores of physical functioning,social functioning, role functioning, emotional functioning, cognitive functioning and globle health are increased which shows that patients'QOL are improved.The effective rate of TCM Symptom in treatment group is higher than that in control group.Two groups are significantly different.In the treatment group the score of TCM Symptom is decreased after two cycles chemotherapy,but in the control group the score are almost the same.It means that the treatment scheme of chemotherapy combined with Chinese medicine has advantage.The expressive rates of CD3+,CD4+,CD8+ T lymphocytes and NK cell of patients in different pathological type and stage has no significant difference. The expressive rates of CD3+,CD4+T lymphocytes is increased in treatment group but decreased in the control group.Two groups have no difference in tumor size and tumor markers. According to the syndromes of TCM,the the first kind of factors are cough, wheeze, cough up phlegm, bosom frowsty and dry mouth.The second kind of factors are phlegmy blood and the feeling of oppression over the chest. The third kind of factors are spontaneous sweat,night sweats and god fatigue.CONCLUSION:The treatment scheme of chemotherapy plus Modified Sha Shen Mai Dong Decoction can improve the quality of life,increase the lymphocyte immune function, stable size and tumor marker and reduce chemotherapy side effects of NSCLC patients.This scheme has good safety.
