The Production Mechanism Of And The Images In Chinese TV Series (1979-1993)

From the perspective of the production mechanism and of image, this paper examines the condition of TV series production between 1979 and 1993, and its revision of literary works as well. During this time, the Revolutionary Idealism increasingly withdraw from the politics of state, while the dream of modernization take its place, which has great impact on the function of television, the production mechanism, the revision of and the images produced in TV series.As to the function of television, it transformed increasingly from the old propaganda model to an economic entity pursuing ideological purity but more often profit earning, which in turn leads to the change of the production mechanism of TV series.The production mechanism of TV series can be subdivided into such aspects as the formulation of subject, the system of production and circulation, the system of censorship and the system of reward. As to the formulation of subject, we have two kind of genre finally, one is the'main theme', which takes the responsibility of political propaganda and identity building, the other is the'variety', which enters into the market and pursue profit earning. As to the system of production and circulation, what emerged finally is the combination of the production model of indoor scene play and the marketised circulation system. As to the system of censorship, it tends to be legalized as a result of the gambling between the national politics and the economic interests. The system of reward, with its tendency of in favor of the stars, helps to make the field of TV series a'Vanity Fair'.Taking four cases of different periods as examples, the paper explores specifically the revision of literary works in TV series.What we can see from the images produced in TV series this time is'the ideal youth','the reformers', and'the capitalists'. This paper maintains that all the images merged into the'capitalized charters'at the end.
