The Collation Of The Texts And Study On Rongchengshi

Rongchengshi is one article of the bamboo slips of Chu collected by Shanghai Museum. Some of the legends in ancient history it narrates can't be found in documents transmitted to now. Some are the same with documents transmitted to now and some others are different from them. So the content of Rongchengshi is very important. Under the guidance of dual evidence, this paper studies it's texts and thoughts by using methods of character research, phonology, textual exegesis, emendation of historical bibliography and palaeography.The study of the texts includes arrangement of bamboo slips, collations & explanations, and research of words. In the part of arrangement, basing on the arrangement of Chenjian, the author made out new scheme by adopting reasonable views of other researchers. The author adjusted the sequence of bamboo slips of Yao demised to virtuous persons. The 31^st bamboo slip should connect with the 10th bamboo slip. The word'Yu'on the 10th bamboo slip isn't'Yu', but'Zong'.'Zong'should be read as'Chong', and it's meaning is high. During ancient periods, virtuous persons often lived alone in mountain forestes, lakes and caves. The words of the bamboo slips show Yao sought virtuous persons widely. In the part of collations & explanations, the author enumerated representative views of researchers completely. Moreover, the author wrote down views of herself after researchers'views. The author chose correct views, or replenished researchers'views, or explained words and their meanings. In the part of research of words, the author interpreted renewedly five texts:'Jian Shi'on the 6th bamboo slip should be read as'San Shi'.'Jiao Neng Shi Zuo'on the 29^th bamboo slip should be read as'Jiao Dai Shi Zuo'.'Cong'on the 39th and 40th bamboo slips means'chase'.'Zhi Bing Qin Bao, Yong De Yu Min'on the 37th bamboo slip should be read as'Ji Bing Jin Bao, Yong De Yu Min', which means Yiyin performs benefit to people and doesn't mean Yiyin is the spy hidden in Xia dynasty.'Si Yi Bai Guan Er Yue Qing Zhi'on the 3rd bamboo slip should be read as'Shi Yi Bai Guan Er Yue Xing Zhi', and it means'Bi Fu Zhe'are servitude by officials and officials inspect their work monthly.With respect to the school's attribute of Rongchengshi, many researchers think it belongs to pre-Qin philosophers'work. The author thinks the conditions of judging the school's attribute aren't mature. Therefore, this paper doesn't pay much attention to it, but instead studies the thoughts by analyzing the contents. Firstly, it includes the thought of respecting virtuous persons. This thought run throughout the full texts. The reflection before Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties is lauding abdication and the reflection after Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties is praising virtuous ministers. By using a series of cases, the words of bamboo slips show that the society will be peaceful only when virtuous persons are in office. Secondly, by narrating contrast behaviors of Yu's frugality and Jie and Zhou's luxuries, the words show historical experience that frugality obtains the domination of a country and luxury loses the domination. Thirdly, the contrast of Yu and Tang shows anti-war thought and simple & loose political view. Fourthly, the words show the agreement of difference between kings and ministers. They praise King Wen's loyalty to Zhou. The evaluation inosculates with Conficius'praise of King Wen in chapter Taibo in analects of Confucius.'Yao Nan Mian, Shun Bei Mian'also shows this thought.
