Taking Goguryeo potteries as the research object, and basing on formerresearches, the classification and periodization, the internal communication , theformation and influence of Goguryeo potteries are discussed in this paper. There are nine chapters in this paper.Chapter one is the introduction. The object and the range of time and spaceresearched on are identified here, and the excavation and brief history of research onGoguryeo potteries are reviewed, too. Then the current situation of the research issummarized and the method and purpose of research in this paper are also illustratedhere.Chapter two is on potteries excavated from Ji'an area. According to differentproperties of remains, these potteries could be classified into two parts, one part fromtombs and the other one from sites. What is more, the typological analysis andperiodization are carried out, and the similarities and individualities are comparedbetween potteries from tombs and those from sites. There are both three stages ofperiodization on potteries from sites and tombs in Ji'an area, and there are slightlydifferences on the beginning and ending of each stage, but the periodization would bethe same. The property and development regular of potteries in each stage are nearlythe same basically. Differences on potteries from sites and tombs are mainly focusingon shapes and the usage method of glaze.Chapter three is on potteries excavated from Huanren area. There are typologicalanalysis on potteries from sites and tombs respectively. Because there are smallnumber of potteries excavated from tombs, and relations among these potteries areclear, so there is no periodization analysis on potteries from tombs but on those fromsites directly. Potteries from sites take those from the city on Wunv Mountain as themain. Based on the agreement with the original report, the chronicle is revised, i.e. thetime of the fourth stage of potteries from the city on Wunv Mountain would be lastedtill the end of the sixth century. Similarities and differences of potteries from tombsand sites are discussed at last from these aspects including the property, the type and the usage of glaze.Chapter four is on potteries from areas of Liao River, Hun River and Taizi River. The typological analysis about potteries from tombs and sites is taken on here. Basingon the above, the periodization analysis about every tomb and site in areas of LiaoRiver, Hun River and Taizi River is carried out. It is considered that cities on LongshouMountain and Shitaizi Mountain were lasting for a longer time, and the time ofpotteries from city on Shitaizi Mountain is earlier and that of potteries from city onGaoer Mountain is later. Finally, the property, types and other aspects of potteries fromtombs and sites are discussed comparatively.Chapter five is on potteries excavated from the northern area of Korean Peninsula. The typological analysis on potteries from tombs and sites are taken on via the presentmaterial. Basing on the above, the classification and periodization are carried out andtypes of potteries from tombs and sites are compared in order to analyze the relationbetween tombs and sites.Chapter six is the brief introduction about potteries excavated from Han Riverbasin. Materials of Goguryeo potteries from fortresses of Han River basin areintroduced briefly. Taking a site as a unit, unbroken and renewable potteries from HanRiver basin are arranged and characteristics of potteries are concluded generally.Chapter seven is on the relation of potteries from those areas mentioned before. Itelaborates a relation of contrast between the existence of Goguryeo potteries in variousareas and the development of regional powers via the periodization, types and numbers, the property and shapes of potteries. According to this paper, the differences that areexpressed on the influence to the types from the property of sites of these potteriesfrom regional sites and graves are nearly the same. In these potteries, cang (thestorehouse), zao (the oven) and zhen (the pillow) are funeral wares, and most potteriesare not only daily wares but also funeral wares, and there is few type of Goguryeopotteries used for funeral regularly. Changes and development of the pottery's propertyis a kind of representation of contemporary characteristics, and it has nothing to dowith region or property of sites. At last, shapes of potteries from various areas arecompared with each other, and basing on these comparisons, the relation of these areascould be comprehended. This kind of relation is not only the representation of theinternal communication of Goguryeo society, but also the internal reason of theformation of Goguryeo potteries. Chapter eight is about the realation and influence of Goguryeo potteries. Based onformer research results, cultural factors which affected on Goguryeo potteries areanalyzed and Goguryeo potteries are considered as one basing on the aboriginal culture, however, during the formation process Goguryeo potteries were influenced by variouscultural factors from Han Dynasty, the three Yan States of the Sixteen States Period, the Northern Wei Dynasty, the Eastern Jin Dynasty and the Southern Dynasties. Finally, these Goguryeo potteries full of characteristics were formed. The influence fromGoguryeo potteries to potteries of Bohai State, Baekje and Silla are analyzed briefly inthe end.Chapter nine is the epilogue. The conclusion of this paper is summed up, and thelimitation and insufficient are pointed out.
