The Evolution Of Female Consciousness In TV Series During The Transition Period

China's TV series has been growing at a fast speed since the late1970, accordingly atthe time when social transformation moving toward modern society. TV series are deeplyaffected by a combined factor of changes which comprise of politics and economics,lifestyles, and revolutions of consciousness etc. It's not only a mirror reflection ofmainstream value and collective consciousness of the modern society, but also interacts asa driving force to make adverse impact to social changes. Therefore, the study ofrelationship between social transformation and TV series development is crucial. Further,female consciousness has been widely rooted in many episodes to address social issues bymodern TV series. This reflects a phenomenon of social transformation with a particularhighlight to the changing role of women. As such, the study begins to explore how socialtransformation makes effect to female consciousness in TV series.The studies of feminism in TV series stem from1980s, the academic schools offeminism varies with different viewpoints as of today. Per my research, the change ofpower structure associated with feminism has not been properly reflected in modernproduction of TV series. This study has cited relevant theories in comparison with modernphenomenon of TV series to analyze the structure change of female power, mindset, andthe say right of women. A qualitative approach and literatures review are employed for thisstudy as well.This study comprises of six charters, the briefing:Charter1Social transition period and female consciousnessCulture study is connected with consciousness of historical subjectivism. Historicalconsciousness is constructed by social and culture environment, evolved and changed withtime goes by. Modern social transition begins with economic reform and further stimulateschanges of economic model, politic system, social ideology, culture, and consumerism. The complexity of transition period makes the female consciousness develop with collisioneffect and break into fragment during its evolvement.Even that this study started to explore the feminism in TV series from1978however,an inherent logics of politics, economics, culture, and TV series are not fully explained bya specific timeline. This study also tries to trace back the development track of feminism inTV series in view of historical development and evolution of feminism.Chapter2Love consciousness of women in TV series during social transitionThe section is to explore the symbol effect of love episodes in TV series to women. Itfocus not only the traditional ideology but also consciousness change out of modernization,and development gap between urban and agriculture society. In the meantime, it tries toexplore the process of comprise and fight in the power structure.In addition, this chapter also discussed the social phenomenon of increased"unmarried women", for those women would remain single rather than get marriage. Itexplains modern women wish for a higher standard love and expectations. This indicatedthat modern women try to balance their comprise and fight between expectation and realityChapter3Family consciousness of women in TV series during social transitionIn line with the society changes, a specific mode of marriage and family structure wasformed at each timeframe I history. The sexism exists in everywhere of marriage andfamily life. This chapter intends to focus on the problem solving of paradox betweensociety and family. For the women in modern society, not only she has to manage well withmarriage and family but also looking for deeper meaning of life. To realize equal treatmentof sex, it has to synchronize individual emotion, family life, and country development.Chapter4Social role of women reflected in TV series during social transitionThis Chapter incorporates the images of successfully women, white collar, andoperational workers to explore the "personal development" and "self-fulfillment". TVseries is supposed to set out its objective of creation to better reflect the independence ofwomen's spirit, ideal achievement, and life's value proposition of modern women.The conflicting role between traditional and modern makes female consciousnesscontradicted between their family and works. A new value proposition of today has beenmade, but the past norm of value system has not been completely thrown away. This makeswomen cannot identity her role and without reference of own value proposition. As a result,a paradox and fragment has been produced in female consciousness. Chapter5Developments and restrain factors of female consciousness in TV seriesduring social transitionConsuming ideology has been the influential power to social culture andconsciousness. In some situation, women's body, difficulty, desires are purposely adoptedin TV series to satisfy specific consumer. To attract the audience and stimulate theirconsumption, female consciousness is sometimes wrongly used. This chapter intends toanalyze the development and restrain factors of female consciousness from there aspects,female image, female role, and female emotion and desire.Chapter6Cases study of female consciousness in TV series during social transitionFor those women who are still suffer from unfair treatment, historical viewpoint usedto reshape them and construct their identity of subjectivity.This chapter refers to the cases of Li Shao Hong, Wang Hai Ling, Hu Mei exploreshow modern authors fight with the discourse right in TV series taken the self-evokedawareness of female consciousness. They tried to present a personal and modernconsciousness in the story behind episodes. Even they are in a paradox of criticizing theman's privilege and constrained by the social norms, however, the value proposition ofnarrate approach in history cannot be under estimated.The viewpoints of "feminism criticism" presents that symbolic behaviors are widelyused in modern TV series and it may cause the real phenomenon wrongly twisted. Thisstudy intends to provide a research framework to explore construction of gender identity,power structure between male and female, and how to improve a better reflection of femaleconsciousness in TV series with real world. This study shall be valuable to identify the realfemale consciousness, as well as facilitates to harmonize the relationship between male andfemale, further to the improvement of overall society.
