This thesis discusses the relationship between the mysterious novels before Song Dynasty and Fang Shu as a method of combining with the literature analysis and cultural interpretation, the theoretical analysis and the text interpretation and a macro examination and a micro analysis. The mysterious novels before Song Dynasty are all related to Fang Shu from the theme, creativity, artistic characteristics, and aesthetic aspects. Because of Fang Shu itself implying the concept of the social culture, the five elements of negative and positive, the ghost concept, ethics, ancestral idea and so on, the Fang Shu class of mystery novels is bound to have the involvement of these cultural ideas so that they have a clear cultural value orientation and aesthetic qualities, marked with the stigma of some of the concepts preaching. The purpose of this paper is to enunciate the ideological and cultural implication as well as artistic aesthetic qualities enshrined by the mysterious novels of Fang Shu class before Song Dynasty, highlighting their value.Consisting of eight chapters, the main body is divided into two parts that are the pandect and the sub-pandect.Pandect is a macro research, where the three chapters discuss the main content including:First, what becomes a starting point of the research must discuss the main content, the evolution, sources, the relationship with the witchcraft, Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism of Fang Shu in the paper.Secondly, the relationship lays out from the three aspects between mysterious novels of before Song Dynasty and Fang Shu specifically.First, the Fang Shu class of mystery novels analyzes the close relationship between writers with Fang Shu, pointing out that the writers themselves are the alchemists or deeply Fang Shu believers. Their Fang Shu concepts have a major impact on the value orientation of the novels. Then the images of the alchemists are analyzed in these novels. They fall into two categories that are unique alchemist found in the history books and the general alchemist. The former group is often a plump complete image while the latter image is not bright and hard to impress on the reader beside the image with some moral characters. Finally, rich social and cultural psychology is often manifested in the Fang Shu mysterious novels of before Song Dynasty through what happens on the alchemists and Fang Shu believers.Finally, Fang Shu class mode of narrative and aesthetic characteristics of mystery novels is discussed. The narrative patterns of the mystery novels are classified into three basic narrative types:self-fulfilling, violation and suspense because of Fang Shu intervention. The aesthetic style of Fang Shu novels is rather quaint perplexing weird. This feature of the formation relates to Fang Shu characteristics on itself.Sub-pandect aims to make a microscopic research. Through the classification of mysterious novels of Before Song Dynasty in terms of the five more common Fang Shu such as ZhanMeng, physiognomy, geomancy, spells, alchemy, it not only attempts to further explain different Fang Shu sharing the common characteristics in ancient novels but also to more explain different kinds of Fang Shu in various works taking on diverse ideological and cultural implications as well as artistic characteristics.ZhanMeng can predict if the dream is good or bad. As a starting point of the analysis of the relevant ZhanMeng narration mainly in the pre-Qin period history books of Zuo Zhuan and Yanzi Chunqiu, this charpter explains the relationship between ZhanMeng and mysterious novels of Before Song Dynasty.Combined with the analysis of the specific title, this kind of novels implies cultural psychology with different aesthetic orientation revealed.It points out the virtual and real artistic characteristics of dream interpretation narrative mostly.Physiognomy, emboding the ancients destiny viewpoint, is a life prediction study through the body, words and actions characteristics to predict future destiny in good or ill luck. In the mysterious novels, an appearance of the character can predict his fate played by physiognomy and indicate the novel plot development. Physiognomy and the exaggeration of psychological state, a combination of physiognomy and ethic of such novel are a key component of this subject.It is ancient geomancy that the Fang Shu attaches the personnel good or ill luck to looking and choosing the direction and terrain of a homestead or graveyard. Geomancy narrative implies the harmony between man and nature, supernatural beliefs and the stick to ethics, and also includes the villagers idea of seeking the good and avoiding the evil. In the novel, the geomancy narrative has two structural codes of damage and standing. The geomancy often plays an important role in constructing plots, depicting the environment and scoring the characters.Spell is the same communication as a dream between people and God. It just comes true through the pictures and words. Spell class of mystery novels or straightly narrates its function, or joins the plot by spells, or expands characters'encounter and description, what is different from one of the dream.Alchemy is the Fang Shu on purpose to pursue a long way on the eternal that will get realized mainly through refining and ingesting elixir. Alchemy has multiple roles in the narrative. It depicts the figure diversely. It sets up and expands the plot skillfully.It has varied description approaches and an unique aesthetic value.In short, Fang Shu enriches the cultural ideological and cultural connotations and adds perplexing strange aesthetic characteristics for Fang Shu in mysterious novels while Fang Shu is better spread for mysterious novels.The two forms an interactive relationship.
