This dissertation is a continuing study of the author抯 candidate dissertation 揝emantic Structure of Words and their Translation?presented in 1985 after 3 years graduate study with Peking University. Assuming that not only words but also sentences are language symbols, the author applies his interpretation of the semantic structure of words to study of sentences, raises, for the first time in syntactic studies of Russian, the proposition of non-divisibility in the semantic structure of a sentence, in other words, the semantic structure of a sentence consists of four essential elements and eight relations and thereby lays a sound theoretical basis for potential studies of the sentence from various perspectives of linguistics such as syntax, semantics, pragmatics and factional rhetoric. The theory also demonstrates inner relation among the above-mentioned branches of learning and gives a newmethodology for all-sided study on the semantic dimension of a sentence.
