On Cultural Advancement At The Primary Stage Of Socialism

This paper is guided by Marxism's cultural theory, aiming at constructing advanced culture, based on the current cultural situation, doing some research on the issue of constructing culture at the primary stage of socialism in the background of the globalization.The cultural national condition at the primary stage of socialism assumes some characteristics as follows: First, the culture at the primary stage of socialism has broken away from traditional culture on the whole and in essence, as well as in connotation, it has become an important part of modern culture, though it hasn't reached the standard of modernization. Second, it's rich at the general level but poor as to per person, the educational level is low, culture industry is not flourishing. Third, the development in urban and rural areas hasn't reached balance. Last but not least, there exist multicultural elements. Considering the situation mentioned above, we have to notice that when constructing advanced culture at the primary stage of socialism, we should be down to earth, in other words, seeking truth from facts. Also, we should base on practice to develop it step by step steadily, coordinate it with the economic and political development, comply with the law of the cultural development, attach much importance to managing and instructing the production of mental products.There are some principles to follow when advancing culture at the primary stage. To begin with, we should make it coherent with the direction of advance culture, stick to the unary guidance of Marxism. Second, we should carry out "let a hundred flowers blossom and hundred schools of thought contend" policy, not only pay attention to the forms of expressing ideas, but also to the content of ideas expressed. Third, we should abide by the principle of "making the past serve the present and foreign things serve China", expand the main tune, advocate diversity. Strategically speaking, to be adapt to the industrialized tendency of the contemporary cultural development in the world, maintain the state's cultural safety, improve the literate level of the Chinese nation, change the dual structure of urban and rural cultures, adhere to the "attach equal importance to material progress and ethical and cultural progress". Also, we should be aware that the development of culture industry, the consolidation of the advancement of rural culture and cultural choices as well as the coordination between culture and economy are of strategic importance. Only in this way can we lead cultural construction to the right path.The cultural advancement at primary stage is the unity of the modern integration of traditional culture from the perspective of time and the integration of foreign culture from the perspective of space. This integration of national culture is the basis of innovation, while the integration ofdifferent cultures is an inexhaustible incentive to cultural development, the inevitable need of culture's idiosyncrasy, a characteristic of the dominant culture at the primary stage, as well as the demand of the times. What's more, it has profound origin of thought and basis of practice. We should do away with old ideas that hamper the synthetic innovation, cultivate the sense and ability of innovation, enhance the spirit of innovation in Chinese culture as assimilate that in western culture, set up globalization sense and strengthen cultural communication.The socialist market economy has given new vitality to the cultural advancement at primary stage, at the same time, however, it has to some extent resulted in the loss of cultural regulation and some new cultural contradictions.
