Shanbei is one of the cradles of the Chinese civilization and a place mixed with different ethnical Minority groups in China. Because the special condition of the culture and section of the area, it has kept many good tradition and culture even now. among which The folk ritual music is one of the representatives.In this paper the origin of folk ritual in Shanbei has been examined as well the relationship between music and folk ritual. After in-depth analysis about the basic concepts such as : ceremony, custom, folk ceremonial custom, folk ritual music, the definition of the folk ritual music is given. New theories and suggestions explored in the paper are: art music, non-art music, mainstream music, non-mainstream music. Using the way of studying Ethnomusicology, this paper analyses and examines the present folk ceremonial custom and its music respectively. The fieldwork and sociology statistics about groups of folk ritual music have been done.In this paper the instruments and vocal music are divided into two parts. The major instruments in Shanbei, especially, Tonggu ang Suona, have been examined. The idea Tongzouluogu advancement is based on the studying of the structure of Shanbei's Drums music, which provides a new sight of studying categories and structures of China Drums and Wind music.A careful analysis about the mode and structure of Suona which can create a kind of polyphony melody in Shanbei Drums has been done in the paper. The structural rules and the using ways are discussed The conclusion is made by all the above using musicology, cultural, anthropology, and sociology sight to discus the value and meaning of Shanbei folk ritual music.The paper has given an insight view to folk ritual music and provided some new thoughts for further studies.
