This dissertation, which mainly discusses the interrelation between literati and communication of traditional Chinese opera in the Yuan Dynasty, probes into the meaning of "literatus", the history of literati, the complex membership and the particular condition of literati in the Yuan Dynasty at the very beginning.Although literati in the Yuan Dynasty had wound in mind and hardship in daily life, they had made noticeable progress in many spheres, especially in the sphere of traditional Chinese opera. Unfortunately, we can hardly find any recognition of their great contribution in books and research papers. This dissertation reconsiders the historical "absence" in books and research papers of playwrights in the Yuan Dynasty. The third part of this paper discusses the interrelation between literati and communication of traditional Chinese opera from different perspectives and angles such as conception of traditional Chinese opera, text, performance, and aesthetics. This part also suggests that literati in the Yuan Dynasty had profound influence on artistic features and development of "Yuanzaju".
