Based on Egyptian educational policy, this dissertation focuses on the emergence and development of modern education with an aim to explore the correlation between modernization and educational evolution. The dissertation contains 4 chapters, with chapter 1 on a brief introduction to Egyptian ancient education, Chapter 2 on the emergence of modern education, Chapter 3 on the relation between modernization and educational development, and chapter 4 the conclusion.Chapters 1 and 2 mainly present briefly a historical review of the Egyptian education in acient times and Middle Ages and their features; and also describe the basic social background where the modern education was derived. Chapter 3, the body part, reviews the five stages of modern education, discusses respectirely the profound relations between educational development and politics, economy, social trend of thought, individual modernization as well as religion; and thus to draw the law that the nation will be strengthened provided education is considered fund a mental and primary. Chapter 4 serves as an overall interpretation of the previous parts. It begins with the summary of basic features of Egyptian modem education, then gives a general survey on its contemporary stage. It also discusses the significant contribution to the education made by Hussein. Kamel. Bahaa El Din, the Minister of Education, and states the author's view of Egyptian educational prospect. In theconclusion part, the author reinforces her theme of this thesis-the development ofmodern education is the foundation and premise for modernization. Furthermore, it is the author's hope that we will benefit from studying the history, and learning from the past so as to better face the present and look to the future.
