This is a professional study on Philosophy of History against the background of modern western philosophy of history, especially its latest development since 20th century. The thesis consists of seven parts covering almost all important issues discussed or being discussed in this discipline. Based on the mastery of the first hand materials, the author tries his best to dialogue with the western colleagues working in the filed, and thus aim to pave the vvay for the further construction of philosophy of history in China. The main ideas and the original views contained in this paper can be summarized as follows:With the background in mind that the analytical style is prevailing in the study of philosophy of history, I try to demonstrate thi possibility and necessity of taking history ontologically in a new discourse different to the way of traditional speculative philosophy represented by Hegle. From this perspective, the ontological description about "History" as a philosophical category is "temporarity". On the basis of this concept, the double dimensions of possibility and reality reflected in present and past tense and combined into history can be explained, and it is important in the understanding of history, especially in the long debating problem of historical law.The objectivity of history is penetrated ir this article from the perspective of regular disagreement occurring among historiais rather than the scientists. The key elements cause the phenomenon be located, my judgment about its possible influence on the academic situation of history as a non-practical study is that it can not destroy history as a serious academic or rea study.Narrative is a hot topic in philosophy of history at present time. While agree to H. White's creative idea about the resemblance between fictional and factualnarratives in their structure, I believe that a clear line should and could be drawn between literature and history. Furthmore, I raise my point of view that narrative plays a key role in endowing the world a fundamental frame of meaning or significance, which help us to make sense of the world otherwise mysterious and dangerous to us. Compared with sciences as a way of telling us the concrete cause rule of the world, narrative is the meta-code in our language. In the other questions such as "historical explanation" and "judgment in history", a deep analysis in details also have been offered in this dissertation.
