The academic study of the aesthetics of the philosophers in Song and Ming dynasty is only based on a low level. Many basic theories have not been demonstrated completely. The most important intention of this dissertation is to answer a substantial question: what is the possibility of the transition from the ethic to the aesthetic in the philosophy in Song and Ming dynasty? On the basic of the answer, this dissertation tries to probe into the basic connotation and the internal tension in the aesthetics of the philosophers in Song and Ming dynasty, and build a firmer hermeneutic base for the deeper and more general study about the aesthetics of the philosophers in Song and Ming dynasty.First, this dissertation clarifies the basic idiosyncrasy of the philosophy in Song and Ming dynasty as a Chinese ancient metaphysics of moral. Consider revising the history of this thought. This dissertation has the hermeneutic base to study the aesthetic of the philosophers in Song and Ming dynasty.The transition from ethic to aesthetic is based on the substance of the moral, the subjectivity of the moral and the conduct of moral, and forms two kinds of aesthetic: the aesthetic of the original substance of Nature, and the aesthetic of the original substance of Mind. This transition rooted deeply into the belief and the axiology of the philosophers in Song and Ming dynasty. This study offers the theoretic basic of the aesthetics of the philosophers in Song and Ming dynasty, and the inherent contradiction formed in the original aesthetic generating.The connotation in the aesthetic is very abundant. This dissertation makes an detail analysis of this connotation from different angles, such as aesthetic ontology, aesthetic category, aesthetic state (Jing-jie), aesthetic experience and aesthetic of art. The analysis is not a systematic aesthetic theory; it's only some study about important problems.The aesthetics have a synthetic culture characteristic melting the Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism (Chan). It influences the style of the art in Song and Ming dynasty, molds the aesthetic psychology of ours, and has deep influence to the rules of the composition and critic of the art in coming times.Finally, this dissertation explains the important significance of the aesthetics of philosophers in Song and Ming dynasty toward Chinese modern aesthetic experience.
