Xinjiang was remote from the political center of our country in the period of Republic of China, under the control of complicated local forces, its social conditions was greatly different with inland. During the 38 years of Republic of China, Xinjiang society was in interminable social unrest. Governments transferred frequently, the society is in seclusion, all business languished, and the masses lived in dire poverty. The nomadic society consisting of Kazakh, Mongolian, Kirghiz, Tajik, etc, as the part of Xinjiang society, had general characteristics of the whole society, both mutation factors in early Republic of China and gradation factors in middle and late Republic of China. At that time, a series of social and political changes caused by the ruin of impenalization also made great change to Xinjiang nomadic society in politic, society, economy, culture, etc.The author carried on the investigation on Xinjiang nomadic society in late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China based on detailed and accurate historical materials, ancient documents, etc. This research subject adopted the method of multidisciplinary. It started with the research method of sociology, taking "society" as footing, the process of social changes as mainline, laying emphasis on the research in the aspects, fields and factors which caused social changes, approaching from three main aspects, the structure of nomadic society, social life, social function. Meanwhile adopted the method of history, using ancient documents and historical materials, analyzing the nature of historical phenomenon. In addition, this subject used comparative studies method, i.e. comparatively studying the complicated historical phenomenon in different time and space for analyzing similarities and differences.This subject has nomadic society as its theme, focuses on the research of nomadic society's interior changes in politic, economy, culture, etc in Republic of China, especially cultural education that still has an impact on today's modern education system. Changes in social structure and conditions of social relations of Xinjiang nomadic society in specific historical period (late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China) are the research theme of this subject. Concretely, The contents of nomadic society's economic condition, social organizations and system, marriage, family, lifestyle, religious belief, cultural education, ethnic relationships, etc make up the main frame of this subject.Research on local history of Xinjiang, the general theory type work is many, the relevant researches mostly focuses on politic, economy but mentions little of the content of social life, especially the work on the conditions of Xinjiang nomadic society in Republic of China is rare today,only has the relevant materials. This subject makes up the drawbacks that those relevant researches mostly focuses on politic and economy but little of social life and culture, takes the nomadic society consisting of Kazakh, Mongolian, Kirghiz, Tajik, etc as object of research to study this specific region and space, Xinjiang nomadic society.
