Dong Qizhang is one of the new generation of writers in HongKong. His literaryworks are very rich. But there are quite a few researches of his novel in mainland.This paper attempts to discuss about the narration in the writer’s novels and the desireof identity construction.“V City” often appears as the pronoun of HongKong in thewriter’s novels. Usually, the history of Hongkong is thought to begin in the OpiumWar and stop in the handover. The writing of the history of the “V City” strengthenspersonal memories and experiences of growing up. Moreover, the writer tried his bestto avoid the grand narrative of urban space landscape. His writing more care about thetraditional and cultural practices. He emphasized the memories which are in favor ofestablishing the citizens’ cultural identity. Dong Qizhang also concerned about theborder of Hongkong. Instead of describing Hongkong as a prosperous city, the writerconsidered the border of Hongkong is more typical. Because the writing of the borderof Hongkong can reflect the truth of citizens’ lives. In addition, the arts ofpostmodernism、the strong subjectivity of the characters and the mixed languagewhich are used in the forms of the novels strengthened the multicomponent situationin the novels.
