As an influential novelist in the contemporary literary circles, Tie Ning has always been a peculiar figure in people's eyes. The peculiarity lies most in her centralization of so many contradictions, which has formed a"Tie Ning Phenomenon"in Chinese new literary circles. Actually, there is no need to feel strange about this phenomenon, for to some extent, it is inevitable for an original and creative writer. It is also the reason why I choose Tie Ning as my subject here.Tie Ning's writing keeps synchronizing step with the literature of New Period, yet we can hardly see her in the center of the successional literary currents. She never tries to pursue (of course doesn't shun) the so-called great literary main trend. She neither caters to nor flatters the conventions, nor takes people aback deliberately. All she does is to express her true feelings and experiences, and to surpass herself by constant explorations. Therefore, although she remains outside the main literary current, she unwittingly becomes the center of the literary circles by virtue of her unique bearing, which has a lot to do with her persistence as to the"unvarying center"in her creation, i.e."the eternal kindness, love and consideration toward mankind and life."The nucleus passes through her creation career as her narrative ethic. Not only does it constitute the connotation of her subject, but also determines her choice about narrative devices. This thesis intends to give a comprehensive and systematic analysis about Tie Ning's novels according to this nucleus, by combining theoretical support with text illustrations, and history with discussion. Hopefully through this deep analysis in different perspectives and grades, we can make clear Tie Ning's distinctive value and status in the literature of New Period, and partially touch history pulse of the literature in New Period or even the contemporary literature, to clean away numerous complicated reality presentation and history truth.This thesis is divided into six chapters:The first chapter focuses on the feminine description in Tie Ning's novels. She expresses her profound understanding and approval toward the female, and ultimately devotes herself to the composition of female images. First, she writes in her novels the miserable fate of the female both in the past and at present, in order to open and clarify the female once-hidden living conditions, thus criticizes male-dominated culture. On this basis, Tie Ning begins to construct the woman according to this logical clue: appeal of female life desires--- examination of her negative aspects ---female spiritual surmounting.
